Whilst I wouldnt be without a footprint of some sort, the Kampa Croyde footprint isnt exactly brilliant quality, I could have cut a tarp up and put eyelets in it and not been any worse off, so you might well take that approach.  The Croyde footprint doesnt have eyelets in it so you will need to put some in if you want to peg it down, and you will want to if there is the slightest wind.

I wouldnt camp without one, but why not make your own

I recently exchanged emails with Kampa (see my review of the Filey 6).  They told me that they have improved the material of the Croyde/Filey footprint and also added eyelets.  I have since ordered one from Norwich camping along with the carpet.  The carpet arrived in 2 days, but the footprint took a while.

I hope this is a case of Kampa listening to feedback and acting on it i.e. they have improved the quality - even if it meant a bit of a delay to orders.

Message to newbie-campers - having had several Outwell's and now our first Kampa tent I would say that they are in the same bracket for quality with Kampa just edging it on price / value for money. 

I guess it's a bit like BMW and Audi.  Both offer a similar range of cars at very similar prices, so it comes down to personal preference.  What I would say is that if you can stretch to the Filey, rather than the Croyde you will benefit from better materials all round.  The flysheet will last longer, the alloy poles are so much lighter to cart around than the Croyde's steel and the sleep-tite system actually works although I thought it was a gimmick before I slept in one.  You also get a side annexe to stash all your gear.
