I'm in need of some experience and guidance.  I've had a skandika toronto 6 (don't knock it till you've tried it)  for 2 years with no problems but  feel it's time to upgrade to a SIG and can't make up my mind between the Hi gear corado 8 or the gelert meridian 8.  There's usually 6 of us and we like lots of space.  I fell in love with the Hi gear but I'm worried it's going to be too big and we'll get charged for 2 pitches.  We're not die-hard campers but we usually go half a dozen times per year, money unfortunately is a object, my limit is about £300.  Any advice greatly received.

Me my self would go for vango amazon 600. Brill tent. You could pick up a good second hand for about £200. Get the 2010 model it is longer then the prev years. It's the one that the canopy dose not come off and better built than the other years. ................

Hi we just purchased a gelert vector 8,(simular to meridian) there is 6 of us only put it up in the garden so far but roomy enough for us and we even managed to get 2 double air beds one end so kids can go one end us the other and a bit spare for clothes etc. we paid £199 from outdoor mega store comes with porch and extra groundsheet, would say its a basic model but will be fine for us only camp in the summer months!
Dont think you should have trouble with pitches, we also have a 7 x8 tent and we check before we go some times they charge slightly more per night but hoping the vector we wont need to as only 7x3

I doubt if you will get charged for 2 pitches for either of those tents

There are plenty of sites that will charge extra for those but the charging schemes all differ so there is no ideal size when it comes to big tents, the tunnel is the ideal shape as you get the most internal space from the dimensions. I also know a site that would also put you in an overflow field away from the main campsite and you wouldn't be able to have EHU, for some that's a benefit so it's worth checking details when you book. The only one you might want to be careful of is the c&cc standard pitch size if you use their sites but that's pretty generous at 26'.

You won't find it hard to locate sites that don't charge more so don't be put off, I quite like it as sites that charge extra are often cramped and I'd rather avoid them anyway.

Thanks for all your replies and advice.  I finally decided to go for  the Hi-gear but now its not on offer at go outdoors, I'm totally gutted.  I'm now thinking of a Vango tigris 8 with a porch or a Royal Atlanta 8 Tent with a porch. Any thoughts!!!

Half Empty or Half Full, it doesn't matter..it simply means there is room for more beer in your glass!!
