Well I've decided I'd like to give camping a try (have stayed away before so it won't be a complete shock to the system but this was always in my horsebox so had the comforts of a toilet, fridge, stove and TV!
There will be myself and my 2 year old son mainly (sometimes my hubby and the 2 dogs but it's not really his thing) so don't want something too difficult to put up alone and needs to be quick but do want plenty of room. I'm liking the idea of SIG to keep out the bugs and drafts and stop my Son pushing things out of the bottom of the tent! The 2 bedrooms should be next to each other but the option to convert to 1 big one would be nice. I'm 5'10 and would like to be able to stand up without stooping. A large living room with plenty of room for storage (or additional 3 bedroom for storage).
I've looked at loads of websites and am quite liking the look of the Coleman Coastline 6 (2011 model) but have no idea about brands so not sure if this is a good one or not. I've budgeted for about £200 but don't mind paying a bit more if I'm going to get something a lot better. I did wonder whether to just got for a big pop up tent but not sure what they're like. Has anybody got any suggestions of anything better or is this a reasonable model to go for? Thanks

I am really pleased with this tent and it is HUGE, only used it a couple of times but there is ample room for me, OH and 2 kids under 3. My only concern for you is whether you could put it up on your own, not meaning to sound rude by saying that but I would have really struggled without the help of my other half! Very good tent though and the 2011 model looks even better with some good improvements.
Have you read the reviews in the review section if they dont put you off buying it then go ahead and buy

Many thanks for your replies - Yes I've read the reviews & it was the glowing reviews of the 2011 model that did it for me saying that it had been hugely improved. I'm quite good at putting things together lol but definitely don't want to struggle and it take an hour when i have a 2yo in tow. I wondered whether I would be better forfeiting the standing headroom for a pop up but the pop up tents don't seem very expensive which lead me to think that maybe they're not as good (in the wind and rain) as a more traditional tent or whether to have less internal room and go for a 4 berth instead but if anybody comes with us that will be a struggle. Are there any good 6 berths out there than one person can put up easily alone?

Hi
I dont think you should have too much trouble putting it up especially if you can have a couple of practice pitches before you go. Another popular tent which is easy to put up is the Vango Icarus and also consider the smaller Outwells. I personally would prefer a tent you can stand up in. If you have any tent displays near you it may be worth going to have a look and that way you get a better idea of size etc.
Good luck and keep us posted

Oooooh have just looked at the Icarus 500 as suggested and I reckon that could definitely be the way to go. Tent, carpet, footprint ground sheet and canopy as an additional extra in case the dogs or hubby come with us all for about £271. Looks easy to put up solo but still loads of room Thanks you
We have the icarus 500 (2007 model) and it is a great tent, plenty of room for 2 adults and 1 child, I think its only 1 room though unless the newer models have a split partition in the bedroom. It has withstood horrendous winds and rain and never let us down, no leaks, sagging ever. Would definately recommend this. We do only use our Icarus for stays no longer tan 3 days, as we prefer to use our other larger tent for longer stays, but I would definately say its a great tent

We had an Icarus 500 which is why I suggested it, the bedroom does have a roll back divider and its easy to put up and fairly light weight. Have a shop round for the best price and then do a price match with Go Outdoors to get an extra 10% off.

hi emma, you can also get an icarus 500 xl now, which gives you extra living space.they retail at about £200.thats 1.2 metres longer than standard icarus 500.we have the 600 dxl and really love the extra space it gives us.hope this helps, ian.
I had seen the new XL model but hubby will say I'm going over the top seeing as most of the time there will only be 2 of us using it lol. That's why I thought the additional canopy might be a good idea on the 500 so that we can use it as it stands but put that on if anybody extra comes with us. I have just been to our local outdoor world to have a look but they didn't have one in there. I might just order one online cause got a pretty good idea of how big they are comparing it to other models of tents they had on display. Didn't know Go Outdoors did 10% price match and we've got one not too far away
