Hi kiely your near me. Are you talking about PJ Camping? I am considering the Icarus 600 from them
We do not like the metal poled tents (too heavy) - didnt want to overload the car
We chose the Outwell Montana range with the metal poles, because on a site in wales which we have since found out is renowned for very STRONG winds we witnessed the complete destruction of pretty much every tent on there. One tent was in a tree !!!!
The only tents left standing the next day was - very small backpack style - frame tents and a Outwell Montana 6 - that sealed it for us - watched people drag brand new tents to the bin !!! of every make possible - i have never seen anything like it ever in all the years i have been camping - we had to pack up and sleep in the car.
The outwell montana 6 family came out of the tent the next morning as if nothing had happened - the tent which we watched thro the night moved in the wind and did take a battering but it stayed put.
Your tent is the most crucial piece of kit - if that goes tits up your coming home or an expensive visit to a camping repair shop / halfords.
I glady give room in my car boot for metal poles and a heavy camping bag any day of the week if it means a happy family holiday without worries of wind and rain !!!
Im sure there could have been many other factors which contributed to the destruction of the tents on the windy site. I think its a bit too simplistic to say just because everybody else did not have a Montana they were doomed. What abot the position in which they pitched the tent and the pegs used etc.
