Outwell Montana 6 - cant go wrong - one big bedroom area if you require that or one simple zip and you have two bedrooms - it is waterproof and windproof - essential for any tent - bags of space for tables and chairs if you need to sit in - lots of extras you can add on when you get hooked !! - you can pick up a new one for east £300 - £350.

If you dont like camping this model still sells on very easy !!

Good luck and welcome !!

If you live near to a branch of Towsure, they sell the Icarus 600 for £179.95, or you could order online and have it delivered...

Yes callmachar, thats it pj camping. Is it a good shop? On the webite it does say they pricematch so maybe they will match towsure's price. I thought 199 was good but 179.95 is better!

Go with the Vango, we had 2 Vangos and decided to get a larger family tent. Went for Kampa Carbis.... big mistake. Found 5 faults when test pitching it from ripped fly sheet to melted rig and pin straps. Took it back to Camperlands who exchanged it for a Vango Amazon 600 no problem.
Since been informed Camperlands have stopped selling the Kampa Carbis due to several being returned. The build quality in my opinion of the Kampas is very poor even the SIGs are very thin compared to Vango.

Hi kiely your near me. Are you talking about PJ Camping? I am considering the Icarus 600 from them

We do not like the metal poled tents (too heavy) - didnt want to overload the car

We chose the Outwell Montana range with the metal poles,  because on a site in wales which we have since found out is renowned for very STRONG winds we witnessed the complete destruction of pretty much every tent on there.  One tent was in a tree !!!!

The only tents left standing the next day was - very small backpack style - frame tents and a Outwell Montana 6 - that sealed it for us - watched people drag brand new tents to the bin !!! of every make possible - i have never seen anything like it ever in all the years i have been camping - we had to pack up and sleep in the car.

The outwell montana 6 family came out of the tent the next morning as if nothing had happened - the tent which we watched thro the night moved in the wind and did take a battering but it stayed put.

Your tent is the most crucial piece of kit - if that goes tits up your coming home or an expensive visit to a camping repair shop / halfords.

I glady give room in my car boot for metal poles and a heavy camping bag any day of the week if it means a happy family holiday without worries of wind and rain !!!

Im sure there could have been many other factors which contributed to the destruction of the tents on the windy site. I think its a bit too simplistic to say just because everybody else did not have a Montana they were doomed. What abot the position in which they pitched the tent and the pegs used etc.

I agree daved. Although steel poles are strong they are very heavy. We have only ever had fibre glass poles and have never had a problem and we stayed somewhere very windy last year. These days a lot of fibre glass poles are a lot stronger. Its what daved said, the way you pitch etc.

Lots of factors probably did come into play Daved dont deny that at all - but i have to say going back 5 years the tents around then was very different from todays market and i never said because everybody else did not have a Montana they were doomed - there where other tents as mentioned left standing - to be fair i am simply explaining an experience that led to me choosing the Montana range with its sturdy steel poles.

Fact was a whole site was cleared by the weather that night - i did not have a preference to any tent - just sitting in the car watching the drama unfold made my mind up.

Montana 6 good value sturdy reliable tent for a fab price !!
