I'm well chuffed as I've managed to bag myself one of these.

I've been coveting a pyramid for quite a while especially after seeing cathyh's relum izmir.

I thought I would buy an eldorado, but then the escala came out,(obelink) so I started saving, then I saw a cabanon pyramid 6 for sale, so managed for once to be the first in the queue. I'm really pleased and although she's an old lady, she looks might fine.

I will post some photo's once I find my camera, and I have a few questions to ask.

For my first attempt I was pleased, but my that canvas seemed heavy to move about to get into place, i have just realised I am a weakling, so will be building up my muscles in my arms...lol.

The tent is for me and hubby and my youngest kids to use, and although a squeeze for a weekend it will do. I feel it's definitely a couples tent though, or for a singleton.

The other reason I wanted it, is for my dad to have his own space when he comes camping, he was over yesterday, and bless him he fell asleep while inside on the chair in it.

I love it so much and wasn't disappointed as never seeing one in the flesh before. Canvas rocks and when my outwell idaho bites the dust, my next 'big' tent will be a canvas.

I need a ground sheet of 2x4m and a carpet of the same size, any suggestions of what may fit?

Well done on your new pyramid. Lusting after one myself, no justification of course other than wantng a canvas tent I can put up myself for short breaks with no-one but the dog to help me.

I got pond liner from Amazon last year for our Athena and was really impressed. For that size you'd get one for less than £20 delivered. Local garden centre is the other option.

Here's an example

Many congratulation on your new tent love-camping!

I too am the very proud owner of a second hand Pyramide 6. It is without doubt the best tent I own (and i've got a few!)

Which model do you have? Mine is almost 20 years old but still in exceptional condition. The front is brown canvas with red edging. You can see a couple of photos if you click on my profile.

The tent really is easy to pitch. My husband has always helped me but i'd like to think I could do it on my own. We are 2 adults and a 6 year old and although cozy, there is still enough space to enjoy. I have however recently got a Cabanon Antigua for longer holidays. I am totally converted to canvas now :-)

Regarding groundsheets, luckily we had a couple already that do ok for us. A tarp bought from B & Q would also do the job.

I struggled a little when searching for a carpet however in the end I went for one of these. Although oversized, I just tuck the edges underneath to make it fit and it's great. Oh, just noticed they are out of stock at the moment....

Look forward to seeing some photos!

Thanks for the tips on groundsheets hlk01 and tentaloon

I've taken a while to post photo's as after posting this thread, I ended up tripping twice out of back doors on the same day, so sprained my left wrist (my writing hand) partial sprain to the right, twisted my right ankle, and banged my left knee so it went all puffy, you honestly couldn't write this stuff for a comedy! I'm laughing now...well just about. I'm finding it strange just finger tapping the keyboard though.

Anyway, my son took a couple of photo's

It was my first ever pitch, now I'm looking back at the photo's, she has a really saggy bum, I don't know whether it's the light accentuating it, but although I wanted the tension tighter, at the time she didn't look that saggy!

Any tips gratefully received on getting it right.Where the rubber is at the top of the mudflap, but at the bottom of the green, there is also a small plastic ring, will get son to take photos as still can't hold camera! What are they for, sorry to sound so dense, I've pegged through the rubber, was that the right thing to do.

She is still up in the garden, as I couldn't obviously get her down, when I knew rain was coming I asked hubby to leave her up, as I want to know if there are any leaks or problems. Once she's dried out, I'll replace some rubbers and get some more guy ropes.

I'm not sure how old she is, so if anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I'm a canvas convert, the smell was wonderful, not musty as I was worried she may be, it's a lovely nostalgic smell, all I want to do is sit in her.

I do like yours tentaloon and I see who have the suncanopy with yours, I'd love to get one as I think it would finish it off nicely but I understand they are as rare as hens teeth!

Hiyas, very nice tent & congratulations on your new addition . Maybe have a look in cheapy shops for tarp/tarps to fit for a groundsheet....its what we have done for both our tents. Carpet for the kos 6 ...we use the quilted blankets from aldi

http://www.aldi.co.uk/uk/html/offers/special_buys3_19168.htm

they may have some left near you ...worth a look as they are a great substitue hard wearing .. They don't have water proofbacking but any spillages can be delt with & then when home they can be put in the washer. Other plus is they are great value. Whatever you decide on hope you & your family have a great time camping in her.

Madz.

Hi love-camping.
That was a lucky find, and good to see that you have discovered the wonder of "Cotton" canvas.

We went for a large "Cotton" canvas tent for just the 2 of us, and despite the bulk of the tent and having to add a trailer to our kit list, we are more than pleased with the end result.

Would love a "Cotton" pyramid for the odd weekend away, you have got me thinking again.

Thanks for the advice Madz, I may sew some picnic blankets together, they are often discounted at the end of the season.

I think now I know how she lays out, I wouldn't have such a struggle with the canvas. The way it had been folded up, I had no idea of what went where. I shall fold it back up so I know which bits to pull into position.
I'm very pleased that I got her up on my own, I think I would put the front poles first next time, and pull the guy ropes out to stabalise them, then go in and put the centre pole up.

That's all part of the fun I think is finding what works

Francais with 2 of you doing it, it would be a doodle.

wow, your new tent looks lovely.  We get a saggy bum on our Eldorado so hubby put a couple of king poles (the top spiky bits) on each corner to lift it up.  I hope you have lots of fun in her

Congratulations on your new tent, love-camping, it looks in fantastic condition, well done.  I hope you have many happy camps in her, have you named her? Welcome to the 'one pole wonder' club, it must be time to bump the Dutch pyramide thread with your photos
