No idea on the age, but for cleaning you need to dry brush any dirt off, then let it get soaked (either leave it up in the rain or hose it down) and that'll waterproof it. The threads swell up and close together and thats how this style of tent stays waterproof. You don't need to use any detergent, in fact - don't use any detergent at all!
Any stubborn marks are part of the character of the tent, at least that's what you can tell anyone who feels the need to remark on it.
