Ok there's me, DH and 5 DCs aged 11, 9, 8, 4 and 2. I love camping, Dh notsomuch. We currently have a 6 year old Campus Yale which I can just about put up on my own. I need help getting the poles to engage in the pins at the opposite side if that makes sense. It's a bit of a squeeze but we don't put up the bedroom dividers at night and it's just one big room with a SIG.
I would love to take some or all of the DCs away for occasional short trips when DH is not in the mood. I was looking at the Quechuas in Decathlon today and they look fab. I also saw a few when we camped last week.
Can anyone suggest a combination of units which would accommodate us with and without DH? Can you sleep in the 'living area' of a 4.2? I'm not sure I'm ready for the older girls to be on their own yet (eg in a 2 berth pop-up). Do sites charge more for this?

There are many people on here that have used many combinations of Quechua linked together and know far more on that subject than me, but I'll start the ball rolling!
How about a Base Seconds 4.1 (one bedroom, 4 berth) this is also available in the new "Family" range. To that can be added one of the base seconds a with an inner tent perhaps or a Base Full to allow small popups to be added.
There are loads if combinations, very versatile tents! Others will be along with better suggestions I am sure!
Oh! You can sleep in the living areas but its likely to be colder and draftier.

Yes, I think that there is : you can connect several Base Seconds together. I have two Base Seconds and one Base Full and connect them to form an l-shape. You can buy a bedroom for each from
Decathlon (bedrooms are each supposed to be 4 berth but they are a very comfortable 3 berth IMO). We use the full as a living area and a popup off that just for storage. I set all 3 "pods" up complete with carpets, bedrooms, guys in 20mins by myself with a 2, 5 & 8 year old to impede/assist...the actual tents literally do take 2 seconds...well, maybe 30 seconds but really so easy to set up, they guying, blowing up Beds taking the time.To fold down is also very quick and straightforward - unpeggIng taking the most time! Wrt to the 4.1, apparently these can be connected to other Base seconds anpresumably the base full.

Thanks Finn. Do you know if the inner tents are still available? And does it fit in the living area of the (older) 4.1?
The inner for the Base Seconds is discontinued as far as I am aware. It would not fit the living space of the 4.1 anyway as the 4.1 does not have the attachments for an inner to be fitted. Also the inner is designed for the slightly different dimensions of the Base Seconds.
Out of curiosity have you had a look at all the pics posted in the Review section for both the Base Seconds and 4.1/ 4.2... they show quite a few different ways of marrying different Quechua's together.

Thanks totalnovice. Could you please tell me the difference between the base seconds and full? Decathlon are currently showing a "base second full" and "base seconds xl".
The base seconds is that and you could put the bedroom inner in to make it a 4 person sleeping pod. It will twin to the 4.1 & 4.2 old style not sure about the newer family seconds versions.
Base full is same and I think you can use the bedroom inner too but it has 2 extra canopy flaps as well as the 2 doors. These flaps can have a smaller tent under each so practically connected to the base full set up.
We used to have a 4.2, base full linked to that and quechua 3 man under 1 base full canopy
Base seconds XL the bedroom inners will not fit it as far as I know.

Further if you ask in the Decathlon stores, they will allow you to have a play with the 4.2. which will allow you to check that you can fit the bedroom pod into it. you will have to check that the bedroom pod has 4 door zips fitted to allow it to work inside the 4.2. hope this helps.
