Hi can anybody help me decide between these two tents. I like to get away camping on my own and sometimes with my dog. I want a tent that is big enough that I can sit in the porch area on a normal folding chair, that also has a SIG so that my dog cannot escape. I would like a window so that if it's raining I can at least see what is going on outside. I want to be able to pitch the tent on my own without a struggle and have a HH of at least 3000mm. I have come up with these tents, the Outwell Oakland S 2010 or the Vango Icarus 300 2011 model. Would like to spend no more than £150 including footprints and have found these tents within this price range.
Would really appreciate any advice.

Hi and welcome
Out of the 2 I prefer the Oakland mainly because its lighter inside than the Icarus and is built round a steel pole however you wont go far wrong with either.
However neither would be my choice as I like to be able to stand up in a tent so I would consider the Outwell Nevada S which is in the same price range.
Good luck with your search

Hi and thanks for the reply. I did look at the Nevada S but was a bit concerned that although I would be able to stand up in it as all of the poles are fibreglass how would it stand up in windy conditions. I do have 2 smaller tents a Vango and a Wild Country both of which have alloy poles and I have had no problems with them so far.
I've just got a Vango Kairos 400 which has one steel upright pole and apparently is very easy to pitch (I'm having a go tomorrow). I got it from Highbridge
It was £158 including footprint groundsheet, carpet and shipping.

I have the Nevada S and it's not let me down. So long as you peg it out well (and I would strongly suggest Delta pegs for the guy ropes) you should be okay. Outwell fibreglass poles are much better than the regular fibreglass poles and will stand up to more strain. And, unlike the Oakland S, you can stand up in it.
By the way, welcome to the forum.
PS - Blimey, arsenaldes, you've quickly gained your five tents!! I like the look of our new signing!
I had a touch of ukcampsiteitis (think it was due to boredom) but will be cured by the time the new football season season starts.

To be honest ive never had a fibre pole break, but then maybe im just lucky and as formerscout has already said you cant get any better fibre poles than the outwell ones

I can recommend the Vango Icarus 300. Easy to pitch single handed and mine has stood up to torrential rain and very strong winds. Just be aware though that you can't stand up in it which can be a pain sometimes. Very nice tent though. One word of advice. Make sure you have either a complete spare pole or at least a couple of spare pole sections when you camp because the poles DO break sometimes.
Pity you weren't on e-bay. I just sold mine including carpet and footprint for a real knockdown price. My only reason for sale was that I've moved on to a bigger tent.
I've just pitched the Kairos 400 in our back garden for the first time. Really easy to do by myself and loads of room. I like the fact that it has a big window at the front and a door on both sides. I bought it to use with my 7 yr old and it is a lovely size. Good to know it holds up well in poor weather conditions.
Hi to all who replied to my message, just wanted to say thanks for the advice. Now all I need to do is find where these tents are on display at. That's easier said than done!!!
Cheers again.
P.S. sorry to be a pain but has anyone seen the Vango Aura 200 pitched anywhere? what are your thoughts on this tent.

Hiya. You didn't mention whether you needed stand up height? If it's not very important you could go for something lower like a Vango Beta. It's 135cm high so you can get dressed and things on your feet but not walk about much. It's just fine for sitting in. I'm just suggesting it because it comes in nice and small and light and is easy-peasy to pitch. Just a thought.
Youtube is v. handy if you're struggling to see things in the flesh. Lots of walk-through videos now.
On the Vango Aura 200 I would wonder about how easy the long pole that curves around the back is to fit. The first tent I got had long poles that had to be bent to fit into the ring and pin system. I couldn't do it on my own.
