Well, we bought a new Icarus 600 this year and it's absolutely fine. No leaks, dodgy sewing or velcro hanging off. A couple of the guylines were tied on incorrectly but we sorted that out on the test pitch.

We've had 4 Vango tents and 3 different canopies and they've all been great.

They do seem to be having some QC problems this year but then I recall some similar problems with Outwell last year.

I've been using Vango tents since Year Dot, even before synthetic tents were first made. I've owned nothing else come to think of it, apart from one Gelert and one Lichfield. And I've got a couple of Vango canopies. I can honestly say I've never found anything wrong with any of them.

However I can also say I've never gone over any of them with a magnifying glass on their test pitch. You do know that the pinprick holes in the seams will close up the first time the flysheet gets wetted, don't you? The thread will swell up and close the hole. This is why it's recommended you hose a tent down on the test pitch. Many manufacturers also include a tube of seam sealer and recommend you go over the seams with it lightly while the tent is pitched and the seams under tension, just to add belt to braces. I don't think Vango do include this seam sealer which implies to me they have confidence in their seam sealing process without it, but it's still not such a bad idea to do it. I never have though, and I've never had a leaky seam in any of my tents.

As to the other faults you say you have, well, they don't sound so good I agree. Got any pictures? It's a really good idea to take pictures before you take the tent back, then you can show the manager them if he gets stroppy and you can also send them direct to Vango Customer Services. It's also good to keep a record for yourself in case of dispute rather than rely on memory. tHere hjave also been cases where people have come on here asking if something is a fault, posted a picture and it's been gently explained that this is the correct method of manufacture because of x or y reason. I'm thinking specifically of the way groundsheets are often "patched" but not for repair, for reinforcement. I'm not saying that this applies to anything you've found of course but sometimes there can be reasons for things being so that you might not have thought of. Pictures also serve to warn others of faults. So it would be great if you could post some?

We are on our second week of our holiday in our 2011 Vango Maritsa 500 and have had absolutely no problems. No manufacturing faults that we have come across, no leaks - absolutely love it. It sounds like you have just been unlucky.

Another happy multiple-Vango user here.

In these days of mass production, no product is ever going to be without it's failures, and you can't expect the manufacturers to check every single tent.
