We've been having issues with our Peakland Tourer for the last couple of trips (zips splitting, leakage into the porch area, the inner tent is erected first & it's starting to get a bit small for a growing family) so have finally decided to get a new tent. That was our first tent so we have taken the lessons from that and, after much searching online and in shops/shows, me and the wife eventually decided a Vango Maritsa (500 or 600) ticked all the boxes;
  • good sized sleeping area for two adults and 12yo & 9yo children

  • main area big enough for me to stand in and to sit around in comfort

  • separate porch area for removing wet shoes/clothes and potentially cooking in
We were able to see one erected at a Yeomans show and they seemed to offer one of the best prices; £299 for the 500 (although it's blue and I would have preferred green). Go Outdoors does the 500 slightly cheaper and a green 600 at about the same price but I have had bad experiences with them and figured the saving wasn't worth the potential hassle.

I have read the reviews where people had problems with poor quality and leaks so the first task this weekend will be to erect it in the garden and give it a good hosing to ensure it's water tight. Our next trip out is at the beginning of September near the Malverns.

Edit: I forgot to mention, Yeomoans threw in a free foot print as well

Hiya. We have the Maritsa 700 and it's a great size for the 4 of us (me, DH, 8 yr old and 4 yr old) plus our dog (who's only a Westie so hardly big!). We have the 2011 model, and have had no problems whatsoever. Last week we were camping in a very exposed field (we were the only tent), high winds and torrential rain and no leaks at all. The tent is great, we love it.

Initially we wanted the green one, but ended up with the blue as that was what was available at the time. A big plus (for us) is that the blue is lovely and bright. We convinced outselves a few times that the sun had come out until we looked out of the windows and saw grey lol! Only psychological, but we liked this!

The black out bedroom pds are great too.

I'd advise (if you get it) to go with the alternative way of pitching, not the Vango version (there's a link on here somewhere). When we pitched it the Vango way we almost ended up divorce......the other way was a doddle!

Oooh, I hadn't realised they had black-out pods (presuming the 500 has the same as the 700), that'd be very useful to me as I am a rubbish sleeper and wake up at the first sign of daylight.

I wasn't aware of an alternative pitching method, I've now found the video of the Outwell Vermont and will review things.

Cheers

We have the 700 also 2011 model in green, its great loads of room, easy to put up. We had had no problems or issues with this tent at all. We got the footprint and carpet, which makes it very cosy.

The blackout bedrooms are great, also the SIG on the porch which the 2010 model does not have.
