Hello all. Im new to this site and also to camping. We have been a few times before but not for a few years and only when I had one kiddie.

We really want to start camping as a regular thing as it will make such good memories for our kids and we can just go where ever we like :) Also with 5 children it seems its the best way to be able to go away with out it costing the earth each time!!

We have been looking into tents for a while now - lots of searching the net and also been to a few places to see them in the flesh :) We have fallen in love with the Outwell Vermont XL and all the reviews seem to be great!! But just wanted to see if anybody had any other good recomendations for our needs. Also it is a fair amount of money for a first tent - but I do feel we will use it lots over the next few yrs.

So what we want in a tent is:

At least 7 birth. I like that the Vermont has them all in a row so that all the kiddies are near us (kids are 7,4,2,1 and 3 mths). Also the bedrooms seem good layout for our family, so like the 2,3,2 layout but doesn thave to be that...

Big living area! With 5 kids we think its going to be important for wet days.

Easy (ish) to put up and pack away.

Samo kind of canopy of porce area - seem good for messy shoes not on the carpet?

We like how big and light it seemed to be with lots of windows and also could have side doors open etc to let in air.

So is there any other tents that fit the bill and are worth looking at?

MAny thanks for reading my massive post :)

Hi and welcomw

You wont go far wrong with a Vermont ours is in its 4th season now and has stood up to very bad weather. As for other tents have a look at some of the Kampa tents, the Studland is very nice

Do you need the tent this year? Only there's another thread talking about how great the Outwell tents for next year are - we can't see them yet but someone from Camping World has been teasing us! Slightly gutted as we just got our Wolf Lake (which I love) so can't justify another new tent next year! If I'd known there were lots of lovely new tents coming, I might have borrowed a tent to get us through this year and waited to see what was available next year. Ah well!

Also, just read your post again and I see that there are actually 7 of you who will be using your tent - usually on this forum everyone recommends getting a tent at least 2 berths bigger than you need, but that would take you up to a pretty big tent! 7 berth will probably be ok while the younger ones are so small but as they get bigger you might struggle. We have a 7 berth for just 4 of us and it's perfect.

Hi thanks both for your replies. Glad to hear the Vermont has been good for you :)

I did read the thread about the new tents - sounds exciting! But I do think that we wont get as much for our money waiting for next years new ones as the tents now have been discounted but the new ones will be full price?? Also have read the advice about getting 2birth more then people sleeping in it - I hoped we would be ok as they are still little (and could upgrade when they have got bigger?) Also think the vermont has lots of living space which might make up for the same amount of bedrooms?? What do you think??

We are going to go to go camping tomorrow as there is one about 30mins away from us. So will be able to check out a few more tents before making our minds up.

We also have the cash at the mo BUT I know if we wait till next yr something else will come up and the money will have gone

Will look at some 10 birth ones tomorrow and see how we get on :) - I bet ill love a different one after tomorrow lol.
