Hi, we have recently bought the Gelert Horizon 6 and used it for the first time this weekend.  We didnt get chance to use it before we actually went camping as we'd only had it 2 weeks and the weather wasnt good enought to put it up at home. Anyway we managed to get the tent up but we had to keep moving the poles and pegs to get it to fit right and so that we could hang the bedrooms as the outer tent seemed to be too big at first for the toggles to reach, but after a bit of messing about we managed to get it done!!  Also we couldnt get the pole in for the canopy onthe side door as again the pole seemed to big and we could only get one end in and eventually the metal corners bent!!!

Whats the best way to put this tent up and to make sure it is doen properly so we dont have trouble fitting the bedrooms and so we can get the canopy poles in properly?  Any suggestions on which bit to start with?

THanks

Caroline

Hi there, when we put our Horizon 6 up we thread the poles, peg down one end of the tent and then start from that end with the pole ring and pins. When you have all the hoops walk it out into a tunnel and peg the other end down, and if breezy add pegs on the poles on one side. Then go in and hang the bedrooms. After that pull the poles into shape so that inside hangs right and the floor isn't wrinkled. Then you can finish pegging.
I don't have a canopy so I can't help you there I'm afraid.

Hi Pally

Thanks for that, we too have had problems putting up this tent, always seem to shatter a tent pole. Have tried different ways of putting it up. Staff from Go Outdoors said peg it all down and start with pole in middle, but, a lot of pressure on that pole again!

Do you have all hoops like a concertina at one end then walk along pulling tent out, or do you have them all spread out initially, doing each arch upright as you go along.

But Cazzamiller love the tent when its up and bedrooms always fit fine. We bought large seperate canopy but it isnt a tight fit at one side.

But lovely tent

I recently bought a Horizon 6 - last year's model though - but haven't had chance to put it up yet. It's only one pole more than the tent I've been using so I'm hoping I can do it on my own, but hearing about shattered poles isn't exactly inspiring me with confidence. I think the first time I use it I'll take the smaller tent as a spare just in case!

No I just always take strong tape with any tent.

We always seem to have to put it up in wind, thats maybe why, but its good to see how others put up these tunnel tents.

Dont let a cracked tent pole put you off its a great tent, been in some wind and rain, no bother at all

It gets easier with practice we thread end pole first then open doors someone goes in and lifts up the tent and pole this takes all the strain off the pole then walk along reapeating, tying back at one end oh forgot first peg down each corner, also get the footprint groundsheet this acts as a guide for where to peg down the pole ends so you get the right angle. sorry also clip each pin into the poles as you go,and watch for the poles catching in the sleeves.easy peasy and a fantastic tent.

We thread and ring/pin all the poles and then working from the pegged down end of the tent concertina it out over the footprint. Easier to get it straight I think. Make sure you open a door a little to allow some air in to make it easier. Go outdoors tell everone with every tent to peg down and start with the centre pole. The Horizon poles are rubbish IMO, but spares easily available.

Hi, i have gelert horizon 8 and have put it up no my own. I only ever peg groundsheet down first if its windy to stop it taking off !! Otherwise i just assemble all poles thread them through the sleeves, put the pins in on one side of the tent first then the other side making sure that the poles are through the sleeves ok and have not gathered the fabric of sleeve otherwise the bend on all the poles will not be even and one pole will have to much stress and shatter. then i pull one side up and peg the guy lines and ground sheet on that side, then in order i lift up the rest of the hoops and peg the guys down on the other end make sure its not saggy, make any adjustments peg the rest of it down and bobs your uncle !!
