Hi All

I have researched the above and have found conflicting advice as to whether to weather a polyester tent?  I thought that it would only be for polycotton but now I am in a quandry.  Can anyone set me straight please?

Many thanks in advance hopefully :)

In my opinion, you don't have to weather a polyester tent. I would say it's a fact, but I may get shot down in flames. It is however, a good idea to have a test pitch, to check it's all there, with no problems or leaks before you go away.

That would be leaks from seams zips windows etc.

Thank you.

I have put the tent up, just not soaked it as I was hoping to go away possibly this weekend and thought that would be problematic re drying it out properly etc.  I never thought about the seams/ windows tbh, bit of a numpty then I am.  Only going to go 1/2 hr away on first camp so if it leaks through seems etc then can get home okay and return it if faulty.

Thanks again raf48 for your insight, much appreciated.

I too am in agreement with raf about not weathering a poly tent as seams should all be taped but thats just my opinion. However wetting it to check for leaks is never a bad thing better to find out at home than on a campsite. So im saying no to weathering but yes to checking for leaks or is that the same thing

The best option is s having a tube of seam sealer(widely available from all outdoor shops).

If you do find any seams leaking, wait until they are bone dry and apply the sealer to offending area(on the inside of the tent)
Very easy to apply.

Interestingly Outwell are so confident with their tents next year that they will proudly say "our tents don't leak". Expect no issues!

It wont matter. All their tents will have collapsed with broken poles, but won't be under guarantee.

Sorry don't want to cause trouble, but could not resist.

I have an outwell...the only liquid that gets inside is beer...and then it doesn't remain long!
