Hi

I'm about to embark on our first week long camping trip. I'm wondering about cooking under canvas if the weather turns for the worst? I've recently bought a small double ring gas burner and was thinking about buying a tent tarp/extension to cook under if the weather is bad. Does anyone have any advice re extensions such as thesehttp://www.breakoutdoors.co.uk/Vango-Adventure-Tarp-2011-P146.aspx

The spec mentions these have 'flame retardent' fabric; ok to cook under?

Cheers

You do not say what outfit you have or if you were planning to cook in the porch/doorway??  Why not look for a daytent to use as a kitchen?

If you set up a tarp to use as a porch / cover, put a windbreak to the lee side to stop any winds or rain coming in.

Some cook in the tent, some don't.....I do,but I dont have little ones running around, obviously I keep the cooker away from the sides of the tent and am careful...but give it ten minutes and the "never cook in a tent brigade will be along to tell you all the horror stories of cooking in a tent,I have cooked in a tent for 30 years and have never burnt one down, but then I have never burned my house down either ...matter of choice and situation,if you have 4 boisterous kidsrunning araound then i would suggest a seperate kitchen tent.

Hi and welcome, we have 2 tents that both have a porch that you can cook in, as i am faily new to camping ( 2nd year ) i was put off by all the horror stories. However my hubby changed my mind, and now we cook in our porch. We have the cooker away from the porch sides, the grandchildren dont run around when cooking, plus we take as much care as we can to stop and issues happening. We always keep the porch door open, and disconect the gas bottle after each time we have cooked.

Happy camping, and enjoy your first trip.

Hi i wouldn't bother with The Vango Adventure Tarp- go for  a Qechua Tarp from Decathlon much bigger and better made.

Looked at these yesterday; seemed pretty cheap material?

I've a 3 man Eurohike adventure tent which has a small porch; I thought buying the extra tarp to cook under would be a little safer. Just the two of us, so no kids running around.

Cheers for the replies; think I'll just go with the Vango and see how we get on

The qechua tarps are really good, we have 2 and I know several people on here use them.
