Hi folks,

Had my eye on a Hi-Gear Mojave for a while now and Go Outdoors seem to change the price every few weeks. Was a huge offer at £179 (odd) a few weeks ago and now its £130...

I'm wondering if people think it is likely to get any cheaper or is £130 about the lowest price? Thing is I won't use it this year as i'm busy until October and too cold (for me) after that, so not like i'm in a rush if they are likely to reduce them more at the end of the season.

That brings me onto my next point, I have read a few reviews about the Hi-Gear tents leaking in various places... my current tent is a £50 Pro Action 1200mm HH jobbie from Argos. That has served me so well, I see people regularly sl*g it off as "its only 1200HH, it will be crap" yet I have used it in torrential rain and gales and it hasn't batted an eye lid. Which makes it increddible to me that a "branded" tent with a 3000HH can leak...

My final point, if I buy a tent now but can't use it until next year, it seems quite risky to me... if I buy it now and in May / June next year discover it leaks, I can't return it for refund, so seems very risky...

Anyone got any thoughts on the above?

|Not sure about the HI Gear, but I have a ProAction River Dome which I use of garden camping, and it has stood up to some horrendous rain and never leaked, including the time, we'd set it up when it was dry.  The rain started and we had horrendous rain fro a week, yet teh sleeping bags insided were still dry when we were able to retreve them.

My daughter has a Mojave 5 which is very similar to a Lakesbury 5 under different brand label. Last time she used it 2-3 years ago there was very heavy rain. I was pitched next to her and checked it thoroughly - no leakage anywhere. However that does not mean another Mojave 5 will not leak which is why always advisable to pitch and check; not just for leaks but to ensure nothing is missing, that clips are where they should be, etc. Could you do a quick pitch in a garden?

As for fluctuating price, doubt it will go any lower than £130 and I paid more than that 2-3 years ago. Just check that there is stock and that it wasn't included in the 'One Day Wonder' offer with limited stock on a particular day only

If you bought the tent now is there anywhere you could pitch it, to check it's all complete, and even (if we don't get any rain) put the hose on it to check all the seams are ok? Like you, I'd be wary of buying a tent and then not using it for almost a year.

My sister in law was considering this tent as a weekender at one point and I have a vague memory of it dropping down to £99, that would have been last year, so it's hard to say whether the price will drop further, a year on £130 may be it's lowest price.

I brought mine last August to replace a Halfords family tent package which was way to small for us. Got it online with a discount voucher Paid £110 inc delivery, ordered it while i was in Fort William in the Halfords tent and had it delivered to my work, superb tent especially with the footprint and carpet.
