I have been given a tent by my brother, it is a Regatta 4 man a newer version of the one I own, however; the new model appears to have shrunk or to be more precise the flysheet has shrunk it does not fit over the frame very well in fact the storm flaps on the front porch just touch the ground, the whole thing appears very tight and practically touches the inner tent. my question is this, can i shorten the 3 poles by about 1 - 2 inches? would this create a smaller dome so that the flysheet would fit better or would this cause unforseen problems? seem a shame as the tent is nearly new.

If it is the one also sold in Argos, 4 man dome, inner pitch first then yes, its tight. Needs careful positioning. In exasperation I have on one occasion resorted to sticking extra guying points on the middles of the sides with clingons. Its a decent bedroom size for 2 people, or 3 littlies. Shortening the poles would make the sides hang lower, but maybe the inner would sag at the bottom and poke underneath the fly?

yes it is the same one, my own is 2 years old and pitches very well, but the new version is nowhere near as good they have changed the pole clips added velcro to the flysheet to attach to the poles i would take it back to an Argos store but without a reciept don't want to risk it, just thought shortening the poles might make it fit a bit better.

Well if you won't use it otherwise it might be worth a try. Have you tried it with the poles off your old tent, do they fit any better?

Fibreglass poles can be shortened slightly with a hacksaw to no problematic effect
