We've got an Outwell Yukon 6 which is a great tent. But we're having a problem persuading the metal poles to come apart when packing away. Basically it turns into a wrestling match between human and tent pole! Does anyone know a product that can be put onto metal tent poles to make it easier to pull them part? I was wondering about something like a Teflon spray sprayed onto the ends that fit together. Many thanks for any and all advice offered! Rob

I usually spray them every so often with wd40 - wipe of any residue so its not catching on the material before storing or using - no problems so far and its been ten years

had the same problem with a caravan awning, just sprayed some awning rail lubricant (think it's silicone spray) into the socket ends.

Many thanks for the helpful hints. Will try one of them on the next outing in a couple of weeks time. Hopefully the tent pole wrestling will be a thing of the past!

Argh...why use products that are potentially damaging to tent fabric (WD40! Vaseline!!!!) when there's a perfectly safe alternative silicon spray readily availible in camping shops? By which I mean good old Fabsil.  Ideal lubricant for poles and if a smear goes onto the flysheet it's no big deal.

Val - thanks for that tip (our Maritsa poles are so stiff that DH has to do them all). Doesn't Fabsil go still though, when it dries? Or am I being stupid? The Fabsil I've got is in a bottle that you dab on - is there anoth type I don't know about?

Go on then...why is it damaging? I am intrigued.
