Our family has been looking for a new tent as we have outgrown the old one. We arent very experienced campers but very keen to become so!

I was in a local camping shop with a large amount of display tents and was very taken by the look of the Kampa Sandown 8.
http://www.kampa.co.uk/tents/sandown8.html

It seemed a really good design- a good balance between space and privacy without being too huge a tent. However Ive not been able to find any reviews online about it. Has anyone here any experience or knowledge of it. If it helps its a really good deal- it undercuts any online price I can find by nearly £50 which is making it feel very attractive! Thanks for your help.

Hello and welcome to the forum. First post!!

KAMPA are relatively new to the tent manufacturing business but they have very quickly built a well-deserved reputation for combining quality materials and workmanship at very competative prices when compared to tents of a commensurate design from other manufacturers. I've only seen a few KAMPA tents but I've been struck by thoughtful design features and quality materials.

I've never seen the Sandown on the flesh but the basic design is common and popular.

If you do go for it I'm sure that it would be a good purchase (there appear to be few unhappy KAMPA customers). But I would strongly suggest buying the canopy to go with it (storage, sheltered cooking area and extra protection going in and out of the tent when it's raining). You will also need a footprint groundsheet (either KAMPA's made-to-measure or a cheaper tarp cut to size) and the carpet for the living area is a nice touch for warmth and comfort.

Thanks for the advice. Im going to pop in at lunch time and buy it. Not going to be able to stretch to the canopy just yet, but seeing as this is probably the last camping trip until next spring (unless we have some glorious weather in September) we will make do until later in the year when we buy it. Definitely getting the footprint though.

Kampa have come in at the top end of the polyester tent market, with well priced high quality products. Their team come with a lot of experience drawn from time with other companies and this is evident in their tents. They are a high quality, low volume manufacturer that only deal with smaller retailers who have the expertise to sell their products and the space to display them.

You get a lot for you money in terms of quality and features. A good buy!

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

I saw a Kampa tunnel tent, possibly a Filey, last week and it looked ideal. If we were in the market for a new tent and wanted a tunnel then I'd give it a looksee.

Only real advice I can give is to find somewhere taht has one erected and hope they have other similar ones so you can get a proper comparison.

Just to let you know we bought it and went on our first trip with it and it was fantastic. The weather was pretty miserable and it held up well, no leaking. The tent felt like it had a lot of thought gone into its design and everyone was really impressed with it. Now to buy the canopy!

I have just bought the Sandown 8  and have used it twice this season, must agree it is a well made tent, I bought the canopy at the same time and didn't regret it very practical especially when the weather is not too good.

Been away from camping for many years and just getting back into it, have totally got the bug again
