Hi there,
We're a family of 6, the 4 wee ones are 6 and under. Went camping with the kids this year in a borrowed Hartford XL. Weather dreadful but we had fun, so we're looking for a better tent! Hartford wasn't great, given that a travel cot took up a whole pod so we ended up sleeping in the living area and doing that tedious move the mattress thing every morning.
I'm wondering if anyone's got any ideas.
Ideally, after a spell of high winds in Whitby, we think we'd like steel poles. Wasn't a big fan of the tent moving around business in the Hartford, and we're realistic enough to anticipate camping in a fair amount of Yorkshire wind. ;-)
Think we really need 3 big or 4 medium sleeping areas, based on the assumption that we need a travel cot up, and probably want some freedom to separate a marauding 2 year old from the older ones. Happy even if it's just a zip out mesh between the sleeping areas, better than nothing.
We've got about 300 to spend.
The tent opposite us this year was a Nebraska XXL and I LOVED it, it didn't budge an inch in the winds and looked spacey enough for rainy holidays. Missed one on ebay last week for 250, bit gutted. And concerned about the older ones leaking.
I'm loving the Tenby 8 and 10 but not looking at coming into our price range any time soon...

So, what do people think? the Maryland is just a bit TOO big for us at the moment. All the other outwell big tents aren't so great in terms of layout eg Vermont XL.

So I need some expertise: should I hang on for a Nebraska XXL? Or am I missing another good plan?

Thanks!

Hang on for what you want - it's only just September so you've got plenty of time. I'm a big fan of Khyam tents and they're easy to put up too so it might be worth having a look at them on ebay. They're very stable in bad conditions.

Have a look at the hi-gear Corado 8, they are exclusive to Go-Outdoors but may do the job and you may be able to pick one up on offer from Go themselves

A friend got one recently on offer from Go for £300.

Thanks:
Where we were camped this summer (High Straggleton Farm: highly recommend it) there were a few very windy nights, and all the hi gear tents blew down. In fact, all the non outwell/vango tents blew down. This kind of made me err towards those makes! Was it just that they didn't put them up probably do you think? (I'm a bit of an obsessive perfectionist as far as pitching goes!)

Our tent is excellent for a large family and well laid out but sadly was only around for the one year. Nearest possible match would have to be the Tenby 10.

If you see a family struggling to put up the tent then it must be us!

We have a Sprayway Valley 8, i was sceptical about this tent at first as they are not one of the most popular tent makes but its a fantastic tent!!

4 large bedrooms (the 4th one does come out though to increase living area), huge windows making it lovely and airy, side annexe which we kept toilet in, and steel poles!!
This tent held up to some awful whether and did not budge!!

Were selling it now as we have a caravan and simply wont need a large tent anymore as our holidays will be in thr van but i highly reccomend this tent!

We have the front extension, footprint and carpet for our which makes for a very comfortable holiday!

Ncidentwlly sellingthe lot for £2£300 if anyone interested!
