we bought the Gelert pop ups, absolute rubbish, both leaked like sieves, took them back and exchanged for 2 Vango Zetes 200 which are much better. They haven't leaked and are much better in that they have an inner (not single skinned like the pop ups)

We have a double skinned Outwell pop up tent. Had it about 4 yrs - it's great no matter how bad the weather. Also have a double skinned Gelert partial pop up which has a little porch on the front so you don't get muddy feet straight into the inner - also great.
As long as you get a double skin which has a built in inner it shouldn't leak. In my experience anyway!

Would a canvas/cotton one be a better option? Should be cooler I am thinking?

We have just bought a Quechua 2 seconds 4 man tent as an extra bedroom for when were caravanning, double skinned, and easy to pop up and put down once you get the knack, and very weatherproof.

Those quechua base tents are quite expensive for a pup tent, I can see that would be good as a utility tent though, I will have to keep my eyes peeled over the winter to see if I can grab a bargain :)

The bigger popups (Base Seconds etc) are a bit dearer but the smaller 2man ones are around £39.99 I believe, which is pretty reasonable for one of the best, if not the best, manufactured/designed popups on the market.
Decathlon do occasionally have discounts however on their tents, particularly if a model is to be discontinued. So worth keeping an eye on their site.

Would the 2man fit a double airbed in do you think?

The bedroom on the 2 man popup is smaller than most "standard" sized doubles (140cm), but you can get smaller double airbeds. (The popups internal width is 120cm)
I have one I got on sale from Argos which is 112cm in width. Its one of the old style rubberized red/ blue coloured ones. I prefer them to the thinner, newer types as they seem more puncture resilient.
There are also double sized self inflating mattresses available which would fit ok.
