Well, can only tell you what we do with ours. Start from the back, use the guy ropes to hold that end down while you thread the poles, consatinaing (think I made that word up!) as you go along. Once all the poles are in, get them up and then pull forward to make sure tent is sturdy, then go round and guy down. That's pretty much it.
What conflicting reviews did you have? We've had no problem with ours and we now have the side porch and front extension to go with it, love it.
