Hey all,

I'm looking to buy a montana 6 lake for family camping trips next year. Only question is should I buy now at £675 or wait for next years model?

I've read on useful posts on this site that the Lake doesnt have some features that are on the standard Montana 6 2011. Thats frustrating but my main concern is cost. Anyone have a clue how much its likely to be when its released? Are there special offers to be found pre-season?

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Buy a tent now you'll have to erect it to inspect it and make sure all the bits are there and it's not faulty. Not to mention it being up in the rain. If your not planning to go away this year that will be a nuisance to say the least. Not to mention drying it and storing it for 6 months till spring. You can't not open it and then next yr find a fault and you haven't got any recompense. Hope that makes sense. I know someone who did just that and there was poles missing. They had to spend £'ssss to buy the missing poles

There's always deals to be done. Why don't you visit one of the shows. (I'm talking caravan awning now but same will apply to tents) I got one of the display models at the SECC show at a fab price and a awning carpet and 40 rock pegs thrown in for free. Well worth the price of a ticket. OK I had to go back on the last day to pick it up but it was well worth it.

Hope this helps

Hi

Thank you, I hadn't even thought of that, until i read your post but I dont suppose it would be a problem to erect it this year in the garden to ensure its all there and in order.

Show sounds good, i'll look out for one. Would be interested to know what the Montana lake sold for when it was released earlier this year.

Thanks again

Hi dpc197, don't think there is much in the way off changes to the lake for 1212. My bet would be to pick up a good second hand one around ,Feb or March. You will find some really good bargins. I got a kampa Plozeath from a lovely UKC member this year(only used once) at a great price. Go onto eBay nearer the time and find out what price they go for. I had to be patient ,lost out on one or two but in the end probably got the best one. Happy camping.........

It's likely to be alot more than that tbh.I just got one at £600 and i wasn't overly keen to buy now but at that price couldn't turn it down.Luckily we managed a w/e away in it before it got packed up.

Cheapest i can find after a quick look now was £749 and at seasons start i seriously doubt they'll be any less than that unless they have a 2011 model or 2 left in stock at seasons start but if the model doesn't change much then i doubt that.

Whatever they bring out or do to the monty lake next season at £675 you have got a cracking quality tent that will last you for years of family camping trips.

For the reasons mentioned by Rallye550 we were going to delay our purchase of a Bear Lake till next year, and take a chance on availability (in it's current form, which is what we wanted), and price.

However, the chance of a G.O pricematch came up and we got one for £630 ! We've unpacked both bags and as far as we can tell, everything is present and correct, although we'll ensure we get a test pitch in a soon as we can.

Good luck.

We've pretty much done the same with our Outwell Oakland XL. eBay prices were pretty high for a used 2nd hand model, so did a price match with G.O against Yeomans and managed to get our Oaky for £207, which was a lot cheaper than the £280 that G.O wanted (at the end of August).

What I'm finding strange is that the prices seem to have risen again. G.O have recently increased the retail price of the Oaky to £320! On top of that, I've been looking for an awning this week (the Oaky only has a front open extension), and have been pricing a Salinas L awning. Best price was around £219 until I found a few websites selling for £143. I left it until the other day, only to find that I couldn't get one at this price anymore; back at the original retail price.

What's going on? I really expected to be seeing some bargains now, not prices increasing towards the end of the season. Are prices normally this volatile?

Go are rising there prices as they have gone onto there clothing time of year now so are not as interested in clearing out tents apart from there own range ie Hi gear and go can make there rrp's up as they are there own tents lol.
All of us independants are clearing mostly Vango and Outwell as the models have changed so much for next year not just spec but with features and different ranges with so many new ones coming out also but then they will be more money...
