We want to buy a new tent as our old coleman one has seen better days. Just some advice really, we want a 4 to 6 person tent but we want a front canopy on our next tent. Have been round a few camping shops but not seen anything that really takes our fancy, the only one we did see was a vango but it was far too big. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's mind blowing trying to choose a tent, so you need to narrow it down as much as you can. So, for example, do you like the tents with steel poles or flexible poles, do you like tents with a central living area and bedrooms each side, or a front living area with bedrooms along the back. Do you want completely separate bedroom pods or do you want one large one with a curtain divider.
I have the Vango Icarus 500, with a canopy. It's been really tested in a couple of storms even though it's a flexible poled tent - it really performed well. They have darker inner tents to help with morning sleep ins too. The colours tend to change every year so if you are thinking of getting a 2011 Icarus you need to get a 2011 enclosed canopy as well if you want it to match.
Second what Bridget says, there are a number of different Kampa options with front canopies dependent on what size, pole type, material, bedroom split and budget. You may struggle to see one up as its end of season and they only use a small number of suppliers. The number of reviews are not massive, but the quality, build and design are very good. I have a Kampa Holkham . I have not camped in it yet - only put it up in my garden . It is a steel poled tunnel tent- with an attached canopy on the front - that you can roll back .
I have had a few tents now - this I think is my perfect tent It has 2 bedrooms but only with a divider so it could be one big room .
It is high so my husband does not have to stoop at all . It is the polycotton version - mine is last years model ( although bought new not long ago).
The Kampa Filey is the nylon version and the Filey classic is the polycotton version this year .
It is called a 6 man but I would say good for 4 in comfort.
Although perfect for me - you may not like it at all .
Enjoy looking , deciding and buying your new tent .
