I am looking alittle advice and would be grateful for any help.I am wanting to buy a new tent but must fit the following.Be big enough to stand in am 6,2,must be able to errect it by myself,withstand strong winds,well waterproofed,As i camp alot on the west coast of ireland next to the sea and the weather can get pretty rough.I mostly camp myself but i would like a tent with a bit of good room fed up walking about on my knees,good lighting coming in living area(see through plastic windows etc.I can pay really anything up to £200.So any advice would be great.

Have you thought about a second hand canvas frame tent, you can get a 4 berth cabanon (other canvas tents are available) in very good condition for less than £100 on ebay.

It will stand up to the worst of weathers, plenty of window space, you will be able to stand in all areas inside the tent and they are so cool.

Only problem with them is they are bulky and very heavy.

I know what you mean about withstanding strong winds, I was in Mannix Point, Co Kerry, in July in high winds and my big, heavy canvas frame tent was damaged just putting the damn thing up, luckily we had a small pop up to see us through our first night.

Windshedding and waterproof are going to be your key needs here, and I would recommend what the dutch call a 'storm tent' ie a Hypercamp Eldorado or one of it's bigger cousins. They are also known as pyramid tents and are made by Cabanon, Hypercamp and a few other really expensive brands.

Have a look at the Outwell Carolina M, the build quality should stand up to those Atlantic breezes too.

Welcome to the forum,I agree with all of the above...frame tent perfect,I can pitch ours alone and I'm a 5 ft woman,Outwell carolina m-fab,can pitch that too,Hypercamp-lovely,the rosas is lovely but just over your £200,I reckon its more a matter of taste really. I don't envy you-choosing a tent is exciting but brain draining.

Well i would like to thank you for your advice so far,I like the look of the Carolina s but its very hard to find anyone with it in stock.The couple of sites on the web were i do see it,is far to expensive.I also like the look of the Carolina m,would only hope am able to put it up myself,would not want to give other campers a free laugh at me putting it upI will spend the next few days trawling the internet getting even more confused so if anyone has anymore advice,feel free to throw it my way.

Anyone else put the carolina m up by themselves?

There is an Carolina 3 advertised on the free adds on here for £140.00 its the same as the Carolina S but an earlier model, its not been used and comes with a footprint groundsheet, the seller was willing to post it as well, its on page 4 of the tent adds just scroll down a bit, not sure if its still available but its worth a telephone call to find out, it was posted on here 3 sept.

Iv'e got the Carolina S and its a doddle to put up on my own, plenty of light with the windows.

I'd agree with the others re the Carolina M - a great choice - easy to pitch solo (I'm a

5' 2", unfit, getting on a bit female!!). Great bedroom space for one, ample for 2. Living area is massive for a tent of this size and the windows are huge - loads of light and great when the weather is pants. Stood some very strong winds last year and because of the steel poles, never budged.

Well after hunting the internet i did find what i was looking for at the start,i just bought myself  Outwell Carolina S, purchase it from a camping shop in Dublin at a good price i think which includes postage £150.From the start i loved the shape a size so hopefully it will do the job on my fishing trips,which will not start until next year again when the campsite on the west of ireland i usually go to opens again.Will put up a few pics when i use it,hopefully no pics of it blowing away
