The zip in groundsheet (ZIG) on my recently purchased Bear Lake 6 has a 6 cm gap where two of the zips on the zip in groundsheet meet. There is also 9cm of zip on each side of the gap, meaning that no matter how I try to overlap the zips, I am still left with a large, permanent gap in the groundsheet, behind the bedroom inners. Is this a manufacture fault? Does anyone else have a bear lake 6 tent with or without this gap? Or indeed a zip in groundsheet with or without this gap? It is definitely not a cable access point.
After researching many tents I initially wanted to stick with a sewn in groundsheet, but was reassured that a zip in groundsheet was a good alternative, as the outwell website described the bear lake 6 groundsheet as being fully sealed.
The display model at the store where I purchased the tent (PJ Camping) had a fully enclosed ZIG. However, the store are now trying to claim that the gap is not a fault but a design feature, for ventilation. I have contacted Outwell but they have not replied.
Any experience / advice much appreciated.

I had a small gap that i used to put the electric lead through - but i would have to thread it through before i zipped up, as there was no chance of getting a plug through once it was done
Thanks for the replies thus far. I feel that I am being fobbed off by the store, as in my opinion a permanent gap does not constitute the fully sealed groundsheet Outwell advertise.
The Outwell ZIGs are supposedly fully sealed to keep water and insects out. The gap between the two zips on my tent wouldn't keep rodents out!

We had a Bear Lake 6 for four years a 2007 model and the zips overlapped were they joined.
As Val said we used to put the electric cable through.
Never noticed any problems as the zips overlapped 6cm doesn,t sound excessive as with the zip system it will never be totally sealed.
Where in the country are you as there are some indoor displays still around you could go and check on a pitched display model just to put youe mind at rest, Don Valley Camping at Doncaster has one pitched at the moment
I have a strong feeling of Deja vu here Justin. I think the clue in this is the 9cm of spare unusable zip. I don't think Outwell would spend all the extra cash on zip they don't intend to use. It's a manufacturing fault - simple.
Bear Lake 6 flysheets and ground sheets are made in batches. The reason why you have a gap maybe that the store gave you a `mixed batch` set? What year model is it? On 2011 Outwell pollycotton tents, Outwell have put coloured tabs on the bags (eg Red tab on the flysheet and red tab on the pole bag = a complete set)
Hope this helps and makes sense?

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful. Great tip Dave - the store still have the tent back at the moment, as they needed to inspect it, but I will check the tabs.
Definitely have been zipping it on right, with the hooks for the bedroom pods at the back. There are also places where one zip ends and another begins on either side of the tent, which have not gap, just a very small overlap on one side. This is what I'm sure all the joins should be like.
A big thanks to Dave from Go Outdoors, for his further advice - really helpful. Looks like I'll be shopping at Go Outdoors rather than PJ Camping in future.

I don't think they change dimensions between batches purposefully, however due to the nature of the fabric they have to be manufactured in batches to ensure everything fits.
I will contact our Outwell rep and see if I can get the company line on it
Many thanks

The space between the two zippers on the back side of the tent always around 6cm. Every big ZIG tent has this.
This gap gives you enough space to actualy connect the zippers.
