Help please

I've just split up with my partner. I love camping and own a zenobia and a vango icarus 600. Both fantastic tents but the problem is I don't drive so i'm going to need to buy a tent i can carry on train to carry on camping.

I'm looking for ideas of suitable tents. I'd like a decent size one if possible rather than a crawl in, crawl out one. Like the look of the vango aura 300 but is still on the heavy side at 12.5kg, the icarus 300 is a possibility coming in at 8kg but maybe still slightly heavy.

Any ideas welcome as i'm determined to carry on camping

We have an Icarus 300 and it is not too heavy but I wouldn't want to carry it very far. Though you would be able to lighten the load by putting the pegs and poles in your back pack.

It is a great tent and would suit your needs perfectly. I often use it on my own and there is oodles of space. It is only 150cm high but I can almost stand fully in it (I'm 5'5").

Thanks. I'm only 5'3" so sounds ideal.

Not planning on going backpacking would only need to carry it from train to bus etc

I'm definetely quite tempted by this because i love my icarus 600

Thanks again

How about looking at tipi style tents?
I have the Vango Green Tee 500DLX
* lovely spacious tent
* standing height
* 7.2kg
* SIG
* pitches in 5 minutes

Also have a look at the Easy Camp tipi:
http://www.campingworld.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=7683
or
http://www.campingworld.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=7108

Only weigh 3.7kg - 4.0kg which would give you a spacious, standing height, lightweight tent.

Hi sandra79

How about vango beta 350

I had the 450, the 350 isn't much smaller.
You can't stand in the tent, but you can sit comfortably on a chair and it's only 6kg.

Regards
Tricky

Strong wheeled cart would make hauling summit easier too or the Vango/outwell wheeled tent bags.

I have the taller previous version of the easy camp tipi. Got it for £50. Great size, and not that heavy.  So the new version, if big enough for you would be lighter.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

Sandra,

I've just bought a Lichfield Trevone 3 from outdoor world.co.uk.

Its out of stock now but they do still have a trevone 2 in stock for £60, it's 6.9kg and has full standing height - sounds ideal for your needs.

Hi sandra

went through similar thing myself and travel by train sometimes.  I bought a holdhall on wheels from Argos for £8.00 for me and rucksack for my son and we carry the tent between us.  it is Outwell Arizona L and is like a mansion compared to vango that we had to crawl in and out of.  Edale is not far from you on the Sheffiled to Manchester line is a great place to try as not far from station.

have fun

I like tipi style tents but i think i like having a porch/sitting area even more. Still considering the icarus 300 but also investigating the sigma 300+ and the vango beta.

I'm determined to find one

Your help is very much appreciated

Thanks guys

Whatever you buy...get a large size wheeled suitcase to store it in...you can pack round it with other stuff you need and it's so much easier to get on a bus or train with....We're looking at the moment...look a right div with all my measurements in hand but who cares!

The Vango Kairos 400 - similar to the Trevone mentioned above, albeit not quite so high spec but with the flexibility of side doors protected by the pole sleeves over the doors rather than a sloped front door.

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

Ive got a Vango Beta 350. You cant stand up, but plenty of space to sit in a chair in the "lounge" area and a nice sized bedroom.

6.1kg so not too heavy.

I'm not too bothered about being able to stand up. I just didn't fancy alot of the lightweight expedition tents with only enough space for you and your sleeping bag that are only waist height.

Thanks

Check out the Vango Velocity 200, 300, or 400 they are fairly new.

The 200 Weighs in at 7.00kg

The 300 Weighs in at 8.85kg

The 400 Weights in at 10.00kg

They all look like they have plenty of room for atleast 1-2 people and light enough to carry and fast pitching time with the airbeam technology.
