Hi,

Wondered if I could have a bit of advice from anyone please?

I am looking to purchase a new tent in expectation of many happy camping weekends this year. We currently have a Rage Bodo 4 which is a) useless in windy weather b) the most inappropriate colour and c) showing signs of wear and tear.

I do like the two room design and am looking to upgrade to a better quality tent that incorporates this. It is so handy to have a separate living area as well as sleeping area when it gets dark or a little bit chilly.

Any ideas or suggestions? I need the living area to be of a relatively good height so we can sit in chairs, not be crawling about! There is only two of us and a little dog but the four person tents give more room. I did see a Coleman Ridgeline 4 Plus tent which looked quite good. Something similar to that. I am happy to pay around the £150 mark if it's a good investment.

I just wondered if anyone owned a tent of similar style that they could recommend?

Thank you!

We have a Hi-Gear Gobi 4, purchased from Go Outdoors last year during the sale for £99.  It has one large bedroom compartment and a large living area.  You can stand up in both the sleeping and living areas.  It has a SIG and three doors, plus lots of windows for natural light.  We camped in it last year on a cliff in Pembrokeshire in gales force winds and torrential rain and we stayed nice and dry with no damage (the tents nearest to us were destroyed).

A £150 tent wont be much of an investment really, its really the low end for a 4 man tent. Look at 2nd hand. If you want an investment go for a cotton tent. These are good

there is one on ebay herehere

I can highly recommend the Licata 400 - ideal for 2-3 people.

I bought mine as I wanted an easy to pitch, spacious tent with SIG for weekend trips away with my 2 youngest boys.

Available from Outdoor Action for £89.95 - it is a lot of good quality tent for the money.

My Licata 400

Massive windows let in loads of light

Mine has withstood everything the great British weather has thrown at it, unlike others around me!!

My friend's Vango Icarus 500 couldn't cope!

Do you like canvas? We have just bought a three berth cabanon on fleabay(from a fab member on here) and it's gorgeous, even has a kitchen area, took us 20 mins to trial pitch yesterday..but will now only take about 10...and once it's up,it's going nowhere..solid as a rock..there are 2 of us with a dog and there is plenty of room..frame tent bedrooms are normally bigger than polyester..just another idea.

Would you be prepared to take a gamble on a returns tent?

What about the Outwell Virginia 5.  It comfortably sleeps 4.  It does not have two rooms but one big bedroom pod with a divider.  It does have two different doors to gain access to the bed pods.  It also has a spacious living area with lots of windows that can be closed up with the blinds for privacy

Its a really easy tent to put up too.  The only snag is that it is only available through Yeomans.  Its also a wee bit over your budget coming at 199 quid.  They have an offer on just now giving you the tent, footprint and front extension for 250 quid.

Looks like you have lots of options and research to do now

Thank you all! Yes, a lot of researching to do now!

We only go camping for one or two nights at a time, not exactly hardcore campers! Hubby always moans that the tent we have is rubbish so I think this will be his birthday present!

I was looking at Coleman tents, thinking of going for a more well-known or recognisable brand than what we've started with but some good ideas here. One that doesn't feel like it's going to get blown away or let in bright sunlight at five in the morning (like ours) has to be a bonus!

Don't know if I'd feel confident with a returns tent, I'd be worried about what was missing!

Will definitely check out the obligatory auction site for bargains, although a lot of the time stuff is still cheaper elsewhere.

Thanks again for all the suggestions so far (and pictures)!

Just wanted to say thanks again. Have now purchased a Vango Aura 400! Now I only have to wait for two months to get to see what it's like!
