Hubby promised could have a new tent this year as growing family means our current one is getting a bit snug !!

Really like look of Vango Samara 600 as like 3 bedrooms (we are family of 4 and would use one to keep stuff in).  Have also come across Vango Athena 600 at Go Outdoors - is that the same as the Samara does anyone know ?

Any opinions / advice or should i just go for it ?

Thanks

Allison

Yes, it has just been renamed for Go Outdoors. What about the Vango Maritsa? A bit more expensive, but will probably be much more stable due to the steel poles, as opposed to the Samara/Athenas fibre glass ones. Just something to consider!

We have got the vango Athena. It is a excellent roomy, spacious tent. We also have the front awning, which makes it a superbly long tent. We are also getting a side extention in next week or so, Vango don't do one specifically for the Athena, but the side extention for the vango Tigris 600 also fits the Athena. The side extention is mostly advertised in blue, but you can get it in moss green. This would make a fantastic tent for a growing family. I can also vouch from experience, the Athena stands up to the elements, we had a few horendous weekends in barmouth last year (2011) but had no problems with our Athena!! Hope this helps.

Happy camping :-)

There are still a few new Vango Columbia 600s around (£250 for a £450 2009 tent. Would be over £600 now). Steel poles, 5000HH, same design as the Sungari (on which the Samara is based) but with enclosed side porch, TBSII, 2/3 bedrooms, full or part opening front, 75 denier flysheet, flymesh on one side door, low level vents for excellent ventilation. Very similar to Outwell's popular Monty but a bit wider and with a 3 bedroom option. The Samara canopy will fit, but you'd have to be creative with a carpet and footprint (cut down or sew together 2).

There are still a few around as the retailers use a pre-production image with fibreglass poles rather than the steel poles it comes with. Read the reviews, it is an excellent tent that was in Vango's Premium tent range and has a top end spec.

We actually have 2 of them - one as a spare for when the first ultimately gives up. The robust, spatious, flexible and wind sheading design means that it is a fab tent.

-------------
Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

Just to update that we decided on the Samara 600 and did test pitch in the garden at the weekend.  Loving the size

We also have the Athena 600 and it has been a great great tent so far for us. Easy enough to pitch and loads of space.

Mand2005 - I would be really interested to hear if you bought the Tigris 600 side canopy for it; does it fit ok???

    Hi

I would also like to know if the Tigris canopy fits?

I just won a Samara 600 off ebay and waiting for it to be delivered :) I wouldn't need a large extention, so a side porch would be idea for cooking and keeping wet gear in

tas67 Our friends have a Tigris 600 with the side canopy and have to say that the canopy is huge and not just a small porch, infact we call it their conservatory.

We have the Samara 400 complete with front extension which virtually doubles the size of the tent, if  Vango made a small side extension it would be ideal as you say for cooking and wet gear.

What we have for weekend camping is a double outhouse utility tent which makes an ideal kitchen.

No guys we haven't bought the tigris 600 side canopy, yet. Boughtcaravan instead. We will use the van more, due to weather, and my husbands health.

Thanks for the reply! I also emailed Vango yesterday and they reckon the Tigris canopy won't fit the Samara / Athena as there won't be enough material to cover the height of the tent.

I ordered the Outhouse Double yesterday and am hoping that will be the answer as I was worried that the front porch for the Athena / Samara might make the tent that bit too big to be able to pitch without having to paying for an extra pitch. Plus I think I feel a bit happier having the cooking equipment away from the main tent.

You wont have to pay for extra pitch with the front canopy for vango athena...we didnt pay extra at all (nor were we charged extra). I would be happy to see what you think of the Outdoor Double. Please let me know, if you dont mind. Happy Camping.

We bought the Outhouse Double utility tent last month and used it for the first time last weekend as our kitchen tent, it was plenty big enough to take our kitchen stand which is the Argos double stand with cupboard underneath, it worked really well and kept OH dry while cooking breakfast.

The tent itself measures 2m x 1.5m and comes complete with seperate ground sheet, the only criticism I would have is it could do with more pegging points round the bottom other than that it's a great piece of kit.

We have never had to pay extra when we have used the front extension on our Samara 400 but I think that's because we use small non commercial sites, I think we would more than likely be charged extra on the bigger commercial sites.
