Joopy: We've had mud on the bottom of the footprint but no water to speak of on top of the footprint/underneath the zig. We haven't been camping very long but we've had the Bear Lake up on a woodland pitch in the rain and didn't have to clean or dry the zig.

The chap who sold us the tent gave us one other bit of advice that I have always followed so I don't know if that may have helped - he told us to take the time to make sure the mud flaps (is that what they're called?) at the bottom of the fly sheet all extend well beyond the footprint on all sides, i.e. make sure that the tent is exactly sqaure and centred with the footprint. Otherwise water run-off from the flysheet gets between the footprint and zig. Is that where your water might have come from or were you just pitched in puddles? :-)

That happened to us once. We were pitched on a slope and water got underneath the SIG during a very wet week in North Devon. The footprint was very muddy. Put it in a bin liner and sorted when we got home

I wonder what we are doing wrong.  I have read on here about the cause being if your footprint is slightly larger than your tent so tucking it under so I was more careful last time.  DH thought I was making a fuss about nothing, but it is a pain when you have to dry the groundsheet as you go.  Unfortunately it was over last August bank holiday weekend and it rained for days so everything was rather wet.  We're hoping to get it out to check it after winter storage, so I'll make sure I pay particular attention and see if I get on better.
