I am taking myself and my dog off for a camping trip this week, I have the Icarus 600, does anyone have any tips to make it easier for me to pitch alone?

I have watched some videos, some reccommed putting the middle pole in once it is up, is this safe to do?

Lastly.... how likely would it be that if I got into big difficulties that someone would help me?!

You should be OK to put the end poles in, followed by the middle one - this is how I pitch my SunValley 6.

I put the end poles in, peg a guy or two at each end to hold the tent up and then slip the middle pole through.  Then I peg the guys properly (usually I have to move the initial pegs, but that only takes a few seconds).

I find that the trickiest thing when pitching a tent with flexible poles is the bit where the pole is through the sleeve and I need to get it fixed in place at one end and then try to push it the rest of the way from the other end without the far end jumping out of it's fixing.  It just takes a bit of practice! (Hope that makes sense - It was harder to describe than I thought...)

i have an icarus 600...when solo, to help with the bending/pinning the poles i put the pin in one end then wedge this against the car tyre. this gives you the bit of resistance you need to bend and pin the other end...

i put all the poles in on the ground then peg the back 2 guys, lift the poles together take a good hold of the front 2 guys in my left hand and walk(sort of waddle it one side then the other) the tent out(put a good few pegs in your pocket before you start ready for when you need them)peg the front guys roughly..go round pulling tent straight and peg out properly.. good luck

Number one rule, take time and dont stress. I pin the back two corners down, put the poles through then stand it up, the ring and pin is the hardest bit. If someone is around, dont hesitate to ask, people love to be helpful.

Good luck

Thanks for your repsonses.

If I have got this right, I lay it all out, put all the poles in , peg out the back and then guy ropes then I stand at the front and pull it forward?

Dmsplat your description was fine

I like Marmalize's method of using the car tyre - fab idea

Warbis, you mentioned that not many people will around, does this mean you don't hold out much hope for the weather?!

I would be nervous with the car tyre thing in case the pole sprang out of place and scratched the paint work - but I can be a bit paranoid - you'll probably be fine!
