Greetings all

Obviously a new camper here asking you 'seasoned campers' for advice. I am but a solo camper with a yearning for a big tent due to not relishing the thought of crawling in and out a small 2 man tent - been there, done that!! lol

I have been looking at the Outwell Nevada (M & L) but have been wondering whether they are 'solo friendly' and my other option was either the Vango Kenetic or Pulse (both Airbeam range) Now they are pretty much solo friendly as I can see so there isn't really a problem there. I think that the Pulse is slightly bigger than the Kenetic and is cheaper by about £75!! I do like the Nevada though and does look well made in my opinion so this is where my quandary is - do I go Airbeam or Outwell??

Any / All advice would be appreciated!!

Cheers

Steve

May I add the Carolina M to that list, lovely tent and very roomy for two cavernous for one). All I would add is that you try to see any tent you fancy actually set up it will give you a better impression. Good Luck

Thanks for that Keanonwuk. Is that Carolina an old model by Outwell by any chance? I can't see it listed on their site.

I also liked the look of the Wisconsin L for something different but don't know where to see one.

Have seen the Nevada M and the Kinetic 600 in the 'flesh' so to speak and I agree they definitely need seeing before buying!!

Thanks

Steve

The Vango Icarus range are great for solo campers. I have the 300 which I can easily put up on my own and there is enough space for me and my stuff. However, if you can afford it I would recommend you go for the 2012 400 version has they have made it standing height plus it has a touch more room than the 300 so even more room for you and your stuff. Plus you would have room for a friend too if you wanted.

Mind you there are solo campers on here that use the 600 and have no problems putting it up.

The Carolina m is outwell but discontinued this year.
I know you seem to be worried abot pitching solo but lots do.
the price you pay for an airbeam will get you a nice polycotton which we all tend to strive towards or another option is a bell tent which many on here will tell you are easy to pitch.
I have heard too many bad reviews of airbeams last year to justify the cost but it's up to you.

Thanks for that shirleys.

I too have seen the bad reviews of the Airbeam but also seen the good ones thats another reason why this is so damn confusing!!! lol

You say Polycotton is where I should be aiming then? I took a look at the Outwells last night and their cheapest polycottons were over a grand!! Who does one that I may go for - for half that amount?? lol

Cheers

Steve

Have you thought about canvas? Hypercamp are very reasonably priced, the pyramid tents are lovely,or you could go second hand on that well known auction site...I can pitch both of ours singlehanded and im a weak and feeble 40 something female who stands at just under 5ft.,

ps,the carolina is a great tent for solo camping..we found it a little "cosy" for 2 plus dog due to the sloping bedroom, but for one would be perfect..have seen a couple on fleabay for around £199.

Hi sorry I didn't realise that the Carolina had been discontinued. The Birdland 3 looks similar but doesn't have the extra living room of the Carolina M. I tend to prefer steel or aluminum poles for stability both the Carolina and Birdland use this system along with fiberglass poles for height speed of set up and reduced weight.

Most of us dont pay full RRP price for our tents, we wait for the bargains and alert each other to them, for example earlier this month you could get a montana lake polycotton that RRP for 1200 for around the 500 mark.

theres also unsold 2011 and discontinued stock to look out for such as the columbia river. which is a polycotton version of the navada m.

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.allweathers.co.uk/outwell-columbia-river-tent-2011-model-7561-p.asp

You can pick up a Kampa Frinton Classic for around the 450.00 mark brand new

Then theres the 2nd hand route I would look at the ads on here as well as the usual places(ebay)

I've just got the Birdland 4 and canopy and it's a lovely light, spacious tent. I camp on my own with either my grandson or dog and wanted a tent with plenty of room. I'm only 5ft 3in and can pitch it on my own. I like the fact it has the steel pole for extra stability.

I've also got the Nevada 3, but find this a little small when I have my grandson with me. I looked at the Birdland 3, but its not much bigger than my Nevada 3.

Shirleys, I likes that Columbia River ALOT!! Looks really nice! I must admit I had not thought at looking for discontinued models but will certainly delve deeper now!!
