We're going to walk the coast-to-coast this summer so looking for a lightweight 2 man tent. Anyone got any suggestions?

So far I have shortlisted the Vaude Taurus Ultralight (XP or normal) and the Vango Apex 200...

Vaude Taurus Ultralight XP

Vango Apex 200

Weight and pack size is very important (must be less than 2kg). Don't want anything too low or tiny as would prefer at least a degree of comfort and we're both quite tall. Willing to spend £300 ish. Must pitch all-in-one or outer first - don't want to be pitching an inner tent in the rain. Need room for 2 packs so a porch is useful. Must be exceptionally watertight and ok to be packed up and re-pitched even when wet.

Like the idea of the side-entrance on the Vango Apex 200 as it would be more comfortable for getting in/out. But I don't trust Vango particularly for technical tents. Already own a Vaude and know they are top notch and exceptionally quick to pitch so leaning towards that, but wondered if anyone has alternatives they can recommend that I should consider?

Thanks!
Chris

attached two links of tents that may give you a few more things to think about, my personal thought would be you need a tent each, I can appreciate you are possibly thinking of splitting the gear and carrying half each but these type of tents are by their nature 'compact and biju' to say the least ! two decent size adults would struggle to have any comfort whilst storing gear in a 'two man', the helium is only 1.3 kg have one each! happy shopping!

Thanks folks

The force ten nitro looks a nice tent but too heavy at 2.3kg. I want to stay under 2kg. Not a massive fan of the single pole tunnels like the zephyros and helium 200 - they seem really cramped but seeing as you're recommending them then I'll go and see some pitched at our local shop.

Hadn't considered taking two solo tents - I can see we'd definitely get more space for storing gear and probably more comfort but it would feel a bit weird as we are a couple!

Still leaning towards the vaude taurus ultralight but I'm gonna pop down to Adventure Centre in Warrington because they tend to have a lot of these lightweight tents pitched on display.

I own an Apex 200 and can confirm it is a great tent so I think you will have no worries on that score.  However, I wouldn't have thought that the door arrangements are ideal for two as one person would have to clamber over the other to get out.

Why not go for a 3 berth tent which is slightly heavier, but share the weight between the two of you, you carry the poles & pegs &  she carries the fly & inner, but you would certainly enjoy more space & comfort.

doubledee - thanks we hadn't considered that. Going to see one pitched and have a look at it.

JK98 - thanks its an idea and I know what you're saying but having done some long distance walking before I am really cautious about the weight that we carry. I'm happy to sacrifice a bit of comfort at night for more comfort during the day as its no fun whatsoever having a pack that is too heavy and every little bit really does count!

Terra Nova are popular with the adventure/expedition types.
A gang of us are planning to do the C2C summer 2013, wish it was this summer but one of our number has just had an op and another needs loads more time to get fit (me)!

Cheap tents

Any of these suitable? They seem to have a good range of backpacking tents.

DinkyDeb, yes Terra Nova look good but either expensive or very very very small... I have sleeping bags bigger than some of their tents!

girlwomble thanks, that's exactly the shop I am going to visit! I mentioned it above as "Adventure Centre" - it's in Warrington and is where I bought my current Vaude - great shop for serious technical tents, and good prices as you said.
