I am also looking for a canopy/extension for my virginia 5, someone has said that the vango icarus canopy would fit but i would like confirmation before buying one!

We have a 2005 (I think!) Montana 6 side extension which we have put on the Virginia 5. It's not an exact fit and the guy that goes over the main tent is a bit tight but it covers the side door and provides somewhere to cook etc.

The reason Outwell dont make side conopies for their 3 pole tents ie virginia, nevada m etc is that they dont fit very well due to lack of support poles in the main tent. The Oakland is actually a 4 pole tent as it has a brow pole enabling the side extension to fit over the side door without coming past the sloping front of the tent thus creating a big gap. You may be able to make the oakland extension fit with a bit of juggling but its probably not going to be ideal. A front extension would be a better proposition

Here I am almost a month later with a reply!

I keep looking at side profiles of both tents (the Oakland XL with side extension) and trying to work out in my mind whether or not it'll fit.

Are the Virginia and Oakland XL the same colour?

I have just bought a Virginia 5 after our 1st camping trip with the kids last week in our Royal Andorra 6 which was huuugggeee we decided we needed something a bit smaller so went for the Virginia 5- I too have been trying to get any kind of extension for it and struggling - went into Yeomans today and they have zero stock everywhere so interested in any tips/suggestions of other Outwell ones that will fit.

And the picture that Petanda you've linked to had me wondering the same thing

I did e-mail Outwell to see what they said and got following reply:

Thank you for your e-mail.

We unfortunately do not know if our dealers have any spare stock left as we are not able to see their current stock.

We are unfortunately unable to assist directly as we have not tested our products to fit with each other, but by principle our tents have some common shapes and forms, the size is the only part that is changing and the inside design and some features that in most cases wont change whether it could fit or not.

Therefore we advise you to find out how high and wide your tent is and take a look at our awnings and find one that is 5 cm bigger on both side(10 cm) in width and approx. the same in height. That would be our educated guess, please think carefully about your purchase and see if the tent matches your tent before purchasing the awning, perhaps look into whether there is a side entrance. And look at the drawings depicting how the awning fit the tent and how long it stretches back over the tent.
