HI I have the 2011 outwell nevada m.  I need a really good kitchen area as we cook alot, but i don't know whether to get the awning or the extension?  Which would be best for the kitchen area?  the awning looks like its quite big - which i'm not so sure about because i want to use the nevada m as a weekend tent so with the awning it's looking quite big and complicated.  However it does have that extra space if the weather's not good and we can sit in it?  Would the awning be ok for a kitchen area?  The extension looks like it will fit the kitchen in nicely and we wouldn't want to use it for anything else.  so would hope that weather is nice enough to sit outside!  or i suppose we could sit inside the actual tent if its not nice out.  We've not used the tent yet and havn't even put it up in the garden to see it i'm just trying to organise myself so that we are all ready  to go.  Any ideas about what is best for the kitchen area?  Also any recomendations as to where to buy from as they are both quite expensive!

thanks.

We have the Nevada M, and Extension, and it is very good as a Kitchen area. We have the table with the Stove Pots and Pans etc down one side, and we have more than enough room to site in the remain space.

Guess we were lucky that when it rained it came from behind the tent though.

The first attempt of putting the Extension up took a bit of head scratching, but subsequent attempts went up easy peasie with the 2 of us.

I am taking it to Cornwall (on My Own) Next week, so I will see if I can get some Photos.

I have considered an Awning, but cannot justify the price and for safety I would rather cook in the open ended Extension. I have considered putting the extension on the end of the Awning though :-) ..if I get one

Best Regards
Nathan

I have the extension for mine and wouldn't swap it for an awning. Even if (when!) it's tipping it down it feels like I'm outside. I do all my cooking in there too. Wouldn't consider a tent without one now!

We have the extension for ours and use it as a kitchen area when we dont take the utility tent. Luckily enough we have never had mad weather, so cant comment from that point of view, but it certainly has enough space and makes an excellent cooking & dining area.

My only advise would be to get some of those foam interlocking "carpet" tiles - the rubbery ones, as the straps across the floor of the extension manage to get me on my ar$e at least once a trip if we dont have them down!!

Or if space in the car is tight, a couple of tent pegs on each strap to hold them down.

We have a Montana Lake with a Montana 6 awning , perfect for cooking and all of those wet , muddy items that we end up with ! If the weather is good then we open up the front , and if not then we either close it or just roll the door some of the way back . Great to be able to close it all nice and safe and dry at night as well . Yeomans on line were very willing to do a deal and couldn't be beaten on price , great customer service too .

Only because I've tripped over them as well but had a hammer and peg in my hand at the time (light bulb moment)!

The front awning with the door is new this year (2012). I quite like the look of it but it seems expensive at £184 (I originally bought the front open extension for £60) Maybe worth keeping an eye out to see if it goes on special offer anywhere.

Having the front extension definitely makes a difference as it gives you somewhere to cook and stay dry when the weather is wet. However if we are on a weekend camp then I can then leave the canopy behind. As far as having a door or not will be down to personal preference. However I would imagine that the front awning with the door would be better in windy conditions. I think the new awning comes with a ground sheet as well.

If you scan through some of the review pictures you will see some Nevada tents with the open front canopy and kitchen units.

Price wise Yeomans have 10% off this weekend. If you price match with Go Outdoors for an extra 10% off you could get the extensions for the following:

Front Extension £89.09 (£98.99 – 10%)
Awning £149.84 (169.49 -10%)

Prices only valid until Sunday (tomorrow)

thanks for all your advice, its looking like the extension might be the best for what i need.  I guess the awning would be better on a longer trip and i'm only planning on weekends with this tent.  thanks for the tips re. the straps that can be tripped over!

We also have the front extension for ours but as our Nevada is only used for weekends we hardly ever use it too busy out and about on our weekends away but if you want somewhere to sit or cook under then it does just that
