After the reviews and advice on here we decided to take the plunge and buy a Marista 700. We struggled to put it up, but I don't think we followed the advice given in the store. However, following rain on Saturday night we woke to find quite a few puddles. The most worrying ones were on the top of the sleeping compartments! As the rain contined so did the leaks. We did check guy ropes and this helped a little. We also had a small lake in the front porch, but think some of that may have been due to how/where we pitched.

Following continuous rain on Sunday the leaks continued. You could see rain dripping from the roof at the back onto the bedrooms. Luckily the rain stopped overnight. However, in the morning it was continually dripping into the living area and was not from the seams. Friends of ours had a new 500 and had some leaks/condensation after Sunday's rain. Another family on the campsite had a 700 and had a couple of drips but nothing major. They had their tent for 3 years.

I am returning the tent to the store this week. Am I within my rights to insist on a replacement or refund? Will I be able to trust another Vango or have I just been unlucky?

hi, didn't want to read and run. we have a 600 and it has never leaked on us. we were told that the 2010 models had a few batches with poor seam seals, so made sure we got a 2011 model. So it is worth noting that there are a few dodgey models about, but you said it wasn't from the seams? could it have been condensation? with everyone zipped inside in the damp conditions i would have thought most polyester tents would have trouble 'breathing'?

i also have just made my oh buy me an icarus for my weekend tent lol i love my vango's and would buy another again tomorrow if i had the need! xxx

It was definitely leaking. I could see it dripping from the rain gathered on the roof. We had a number of puddles in a variety of places. Also, once the rain cleared so did the water...

Hi Tracie, is it a 2010 model? As Lauren says they seem to be the problem ones. Regardless I would definately take it back and I wouldn't let it put you off, we have the same tent and love it.

Good luck

You may have just been unlucky and yes you should certainly take it back however , I would ask for a refund and choose something else . I can only speak from my own experience , I have owned 2 Vango tents ( both large models ) and had problems with both . Both were returned .

I now have 2 Outwell tents , have had no problems with either and couldn't be happier .

Best of luck .

Hi Tracie, we have just got back from a really wet and windy week in Cormwall and our 2011 Vango Maritsa 700 has stood up against the weather brilliantly.  Only problem was a puddle under the tent trying to come up.

I would say you must have a 'bad' one and that you shouldn't give up on Vango tents - we have now had two good Vangos - the other being an Icarus 500.

Good luck.

If you are sure it is leaking I would take it back for a refund and buy a Kampa tent instead

Hi Tracie,

Doesn't sound good - but I do think you have just been unlucky as our Maritsa 500 has stood up to some pretty nasty weather with no problems.

Hope you get sorted soon!

Thanks for all your replies. We have taken it back and is hopefully now back at Vango being checked out. The shop were really good and apologetic that we had to return it. We were told that it sometimes takes a couple of times for it to fully seal itself!? I've not heard this before. We also had an issue with the zip between the living area and porch area, which looks like it could be broken. I will wait and see what Vango say.

Thanks to you all for reading.

Hi Tracie

Sorry to hear your problems, we also have a Maritsa 700 and when we first put it up we noticing 3 small holes by one of the doors. We were going to return it but as they were out of stock and we wouldn't get a replacement before our next camp we settled for a partial refund and some super dooper techy fixing stuff.

Went for second camp in June in the very wet week we had, applied fixing stuff, no leaks. We had a heavy downpour and we had a little leak coming from the zip we applied the fixing stuff, no leaks.

Although we have had a few issues we still really love our tent, the weather was extreme and we were battered quite a bit, but we had no damage and only one small leak. We previously have owned 2 other Vangos and had no problems, we have also had an Outwell Montana 6 that leaked lots and lots and went back. I think its the luck of the draw.
