Hi all.

Am looking for advice on purchasing a new family tent for our future camping adventures!

I am a single mum with 2 young children. I currently have a cheap 3 bedroom tent that i bought from a friend. Its ok - but it really is the most basic of tents. Looking to upgrade to something a little more water tight and breeze free???

Ideally I would like:

 3 bedrooms - but minimum of 2

Reasonable sized living area - where a table and chairs can fit for indoor activities!

Groundsheet that is attached to the sides of the tent

Reasonably easy to pitch by myself!

I know this sounds like a long list, but these are ideals!

do any of you out there have any suggestions about makes and models of tents that might suit my needs>?

thanks in advance!

Hi, although not a single Mum I camp on my own with the kids. The problem is finding a tent that is big enough to give you some space but small enough so you can put it up on your own.

In my experience forget the big 6 or 8 berth tents. Yes the space is lovely but trying to put them up on your own with the kids charging about is going to be really stressful.

We have recently bought an Outwell Vacanza Montreal 400 which we love and a bargain at £99 from the Argos Outlet on ebay. This is a similar size a shape to the very popular Vango Icarus 500 which is also worth a look. There are other tents this size and shape depending on your budget. The nice thing about the Vango Icarus is that you can buy a separate porch to give you more living space if you want it.

Outwell Navada M is worth looking at , it's a great size and great quality . It's also really easy to put up on your own . I bought one of these tents just last week and I pitched it yesterday for the first time ( on my own ) . It only took around 30 mins and was a pleasure to do .

Check out the video on you tube : Navada M pitching . It's made by a company called valuetents ( I think ) .

The Navada M has a lot of fans on this site , I haven't read any negative comments about them at all .

Always a good idea to go and have a look at a tent display if you can , it's much easier to decide which is the best one for you if you've seen them in the flesh .

Happy hunting .

If you have space for it in the car, then it is worth considering the Hypercamp Escala 4 that I can put up on my own.

The downsides are that the main tent canvas usually needs drying once I get home, and the pack size being bigger than poly tents.

However, it has a movable front wall, and one can use the front section as an integral porch/canopy for cooking by putting the front wall on the middle frame; or increase the living area by putting it on the front frame.

A very versatile tent.

I had a Hi Gear Gobi 4 for 3yrs which was a cheap(ish) good quality tent and suited me and my grown up daughter for our main holidays and weekends away

Sleeping pod held two fishemen's camp beds with ease and we had plenty of room in the living area if we needed to sit in there with all the cooking stuff etc...

Got a small tear in the front last year(though repaired)and upgraded to an Icarus 500 which I've pitched twice by myself with ease also have the front enclosed porch for the 500 which gives me extra room to keep gear in..Only drawback I've found is the sloping door on the Icarus(sometimes lets rain in as you leave/enter the tent...And the porch does not have curtains on the windows either side which annoys me slightly from the privacy(at night)angle...

Jelboy.
