I dont know anything about the Hi-Gear tents, have you looked at the reviews on here? If you are prepared to buy online there are some amazing bargains on tents, especially if you find a 2010 or 2011 model.

For Example JR Leisure have a Vango Midas 400 with a free carpet for £155.99 and Outdoor Value have a couple of Coleman tents for a similar price. Look at Ebay sellers too.

I did a lot of research before buying our Outwell Vacanza Montreal 400 for £99 from the Argos ebay clearance site. We just wanted a weekend tent without spending too much and this is perfect.

It's rather hard to comment without a bit more info!
As far as I'm aware, Hi Gear are made for Go Outdoors by Gelert.
How many people will be using the tent? Nice tent for 2-3 people but wouldn't want to squeeze 4 into it.

My friend has a Hi Gear tent and our families camp together a lot so I can see how it compares to my Outwell which was bought at the same time around two years ago.

I think most Hi Gear tents represent good value for money, his tent has been through a lot of rough weather and has very faired well, it's hasn't leaked, no broken poles despite high winds and so it's been a good deal.

So ok, your not getting the quality of an Outwell, you can see when they're sat side by side the finish, the little touches and extras you get with Outwell but it was almost double the price and that takes a lot to justify.  That said, my friend has just chosen to waterproof his tent because he's feeling a little nervous about it where I'm not because it looks good as new, maybe it's what you can't see that your paying for.

I would consider a Hi Gear based on what I've seen, but if it was going to get a lot of use I would probably pay the extra for something like an Outwell.

We purchased a Hi Gear Corado 4 a few months ago. Being virgin campers we didn't have any experience to go on so our choice was based on standing height, inside room and size. We can of honestly say that after our first camping trip to Helston, Cornwall this week, we are extremely impressed with the quality and strength of the Hi Gear tent.

The weather on the first day was sunny, hot and a little breeze. This then turned into torrential rain and strong winds. We had no leaks even though it turned out that we were pitched head first into the wind.

We left the campsite on Thursday afternoon after experiencing 40mph gales overnight on Wednesday. Although we and the tent survived no problems with gusts up to 40mph, we didn't fancy our chances as the forecast was for gusts of 60mph +.

We spent many months looking at different tents and seeing them pitched all over the country and to be honest, the Hi Gear Corado 4 won every time. Excellent reviews and to top it all off we managed to find the new version where the ground sheet is completely sewn in, opposed to the old version where the ground sheet at the front door is a little flap.

Overall, we believe we made a right decision and have not been disappointed at all.

Hi
We have the high gear voyager 6, now into its 2nd season and (touch wood) have no probs at all with it.
We r just back from lakes where we had 3 days and nights of rain and no leaks.
I think for the money (we only paid 130 when on offer) they can prove to be good value.
Like others have said make sure it suits your needs and budget too.
