Did you go for the tarp?

I too have a badawi and I am considering the tarp.

yes I did.

Took it camping 23/24th when we had the nightmare weekend of floods/wind and stood up well.

Moved a bit at times but to be expected but stayed rock solid

Nice as it gives much more room and allows the tent door to be open when its raining although I did have a slight gap but think it was down to the high winds

I didn't get chance to take any pics but its slightly different to the images on the web

Found the website

http://sawa.naturum.ne.jp/e1284888.html

not put up the best but you get the idea...a little odd looking but if you have the vaude badawi then you already like it different :-)

It's one huge front loop then it attaches to tent loop at the base and on the flysheet

Got mine from http://www.trekkinn.com..best price I could find

Out of interest what tent u got ?

Hope its of use

Have a Bedawi Long TC with comfort footprint - it is a 2008 vintage.

Pics are very helpful, thanks - looks very different to the Vaude site. The tarp on the Vaude site appears asymmetric and without a front hood. I wonder if the design has changed?

we have two small children now, so I am looking for a bit more space.

im pretty sure it has changed ...not many of the vaude badawi Long around based on my travels...mine not the TC but the weekend we had in the dales during the atrocious weather proved one thing....it's rock solid when pitched correctly. I've never seen so many people sleeping in their cars with their tents basically flattened by the high winds.

The only thing I had problem with was the back of the sleeping pods pegs coming loose due to the ground being too wet....friend gave me some delta ground pegs and that did the trick. Glad I paid extra for the tent and didn't go with a cheaper option. Nothing wrong with the cheaper tents dont get me wrong but when the weather bites tent choice wins through

Hi.

Hopefully one or both of you are still about.  :o)

I bought a Badawi a few years ago and bought a tarp the following year.  However, on the very first trip they were used together, the nylon loops that the long side straps of the tarp 'hooks' over on the tent (around one of the tent poles) came unstitched.  They literally tore out of the fly sheet during a bit of breezy night.

The loops have since been stitched back in and taped, but we've been too afraid to use the tarp again in fear that they will tear out again.  Can I ask, how is it you attach your tarp to your fly sheet?  I am tempted to tie a length of bungie cord around the nylon loop to relieve some of the tension placed on it when the trap is pulled tight at the front.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

James.

Hi Martyn.

You have understood perfectly, the grey nylon loops used to tie the guy lines to. Both of these tore out of the fly sheet due to excessive tension placed on them once the tarp was hooked over.

Thanks for your help.

J.

I've used the bungees I purchased from here

http://www.clingons.co.uk/prices.html

The small original ones broke and I think the tension was too tight but the grey loops were ok

I bought a small and large pack but not sure which one i used (large I think)

Hope that helps
