We need to replace our tent after the old one died due to wind damage a few weeks ago . Having had a good look on here and at the local camping shop, we think we've narrowed it down to either the Kampa Croyde 6 or the Vango Marista 600 (or 700!)

We're a family of 6 - 2 adults, 4 kids (14,12,7, and 4). Our eldest quite likes sleeping in her little popup tent though, so isn't always in with the rest of us. The Croyde gets a better score on the reviews here, but husband trusts Vango as he's heard of them before(!).

There's nothing in it on price between the Marista 600 and the Croyde 6, so need convincing on other features.

Any comments? thanks :)

If’ it’s just down to “brand” then don’t worry Kampa tents are fine . Over the past few years Kampa tents have been getting good reviews and this year the range is looking very competitively priced in particular against Outwell tents.

I would be more reassured by customer comments who have owned and used the tent rather than the fact you may not have heard of the brand. Indeed the additional customer support by Kampa is also highly rated, especially answering questions and helping with problems (again more than can be said of some other big name manufactures). Although to be honest as with most products, your buying experience will be influenced more by the retailer.

One other point, Kampa tents have a more structured pricing policy and you won’t necessarily see big price swings between dealers. You may find deals on package prices (tents, carpet, footprint, canopy etc) but not on the actual tent. This is not a bad thing, it will focus your mind more on the retailer where you buy the product from and level of support you will get rather than price.

After all that flannel - Kampa tents are fine and worth considering.

I have heard plenty of complaints about vangos leaking etc can't say the same for kampa tents so thats where my money would go.

I believe the Martisa is sorted now but the 2010 model was terrible for leaking my friend had one ,while we were on holiday it rained!
His tent rained harder inside than out!!!!,
This was down to faulty material,as mentioned before check out the retailer as this was off the net and at a cheaper price! ( did the retailer buy. Cheaper batch???)
Anyway Vango can produce very good tents but I can honestly say I love the look of the Kampa tents
If you are looking at the Martisa why not consider outwell Montana 6 or Glendale?

if you like the Maritsa layout have you seen the Kampa Bamburgh?
We had Kampa and it was fab, just too big for 2 plus dog!

Dont be put off by the Kampa name we have 2 of them and they are excellent tents especially the way they are priced at the moment.
We were looking last year to replace our aging Outwell Vermont and chose the Kampa Croyde as it was excellent quality at a very good price and with the addition of the vestibule you can enclose the front canopy. I had a couple of little niggles about lack of velcro on the bottom of the side dooors which is easily fixed and the lack of flymesh and drop down sig on the front door means the bottom of this door is not sealed in any way (see my review in the tent review section). That said its still a great tent and Kampas aftersales is excellent

We have a Maritsa 700 and love it. It was the 2010 models that leaked but we've had no probs with our 2011. It has steel poles which held up really well in the windy weather over Jubilee weekend. If there are six of you I would recommend the 700 instead of the 600 to give you more room. The tent is really spacious and the built in porch is great to use as a kitchen area and for dirty shoes etc

We also have a Maritsa (only a 500 though) and we love it - it's a 2011 model and we have had no problems with it whatsoever. Having said that, my parents have just bought a Kampa tent and I am very impressed with it, so I think at the end of the day it's just a matter of personal preference. We love the porch on the Maritsa and because we have a dog, it is really practical for drying him off before he is allowed on the carpet lol!

Oh dear that's a tricky one .... you could be practical and do a "for and against" list for both tents (think Toptrumps - google if you don't know what I mean) or just play rock, scissors, paper and see who wins

One thing I noticed yesterday between the Maritsa and Croyde: how do you get in the Maritsa if it's raining without water running into the tent?

Croyde 6 is AWESOME.

Our first family camping tent.

Superb quality and stood up to a full on 24 hour wind/rain assault on the cornish coast last year :)

The porch is VERY useful.

The vestibule is a must IMO if the weather is uncertain.

We looked at the Maritsa...

Personally, I find the shape/layout rather odd. Too narrow for my liking, the Croyde has acres of usable space.

We have 2 kampas and love them both! The croyde seems very sturdy - it's heavy but in a reassuring way. We have just bought the vestibule as think it will be a nice addition as we are going for 2 weeks in August - the front canopy is spacious and has kept our gear sheltered in wet weather so think the vestibule will be an extra bonus in that respect.

There is loads of space inside and flexibility with the bedrooms. Good storage pockets too.

We fit a picnic table (type with seats attached), 2 comfy chairs, storage, kampa khazi, numerous bags and toys in the living area. We take camp beds so also have space under these. There are 4 of us and we have stacks of space so should be good for 6 of you.
