Hi everyone,

After using the website to get reviews of campsites, I have finally decidied to join, and have submitted my first review tonight.

Next thing was to try to find out if anyone has a Outwell Cleveland 5 tent to see what they thought of it and how it performed?

I need to replace my current tent and initially wanted something more robust with steel poles. However, when searching the outwell site for a suitable tent came accross the Cleveland 5 which seems to fit the bill in terms of porch v living space and cost. I was particularly wondering how well the tent coped with poorer weather conditions since this is a primary motivation to upgrade to a tent with steel poles!

Any feelings and experiences regarding the Cleveland 5 or 6 would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

The Cleveland is a new tent this season, hence the lack of reviews. I'm sure by next season there will be a few reviews. I guess you (and possibly I as we are considering one too) will have to take a punt. I do know that across the range there aren't many complaints re: outwell tents in general. So if you take the gamble I think the odds are in your favour.

We have the Cleveland 6, its a great tent. Have yet to camp in due to other things going on but are booked for Aug. I don't belive they have steel poles though. Mine has the fibre glass ones. The living areas are great for families cos once kids in bed adults can chill in the conservatory as we call it. Once we have camped in it I will be doing full review.

Thanks for those.

I think it looks like a great tent.  The combination of porch and liviving space ideal, particularly since you can remove the porch ground sheet (or at least fold it back to avoid it collecting water if you have the sloping front door open in the rain).

My quandry is that I initially set out to try and get a really strong steel poled family tent that would stand up to some poorer weather.  Of which the outwell tents generally seem to be, but found that I either do not like the design or cannot afford the ones that I do like the design of!

The Cleveland seems to fit the bill, but I'm just concerned that when the weather get a bit windier, it won't perform.  That being said Outwell have tested it the same way as the rest of their tents, with a big fan on a forklift, and it didn't break.

Perhaps I just need to geton with it.  There are really good deals out there at the moement....

Kampa Croyde 6 Maybe an option...? Kampa tents have been getting good reviews and are proving good value this year

As mentioned in the other thread about duratec poles, I have a sun valley, which looks very very similar to the cleveland, and has fibreglass poles.

It has stood up to huge winds, it bends a bit when the wind gets silly and in the past 7 years or so have had 4 pole sections break in very bad weather. The pole sections are cheap to buy and easy to replace.

If I was after a fibreglass tent of that size, I would look closely at the Cleveland (and at the equivalent Kampa).

Hi Drift
The thing with Outwell is they do design some nice looking tents and on the whole most of them stand up pretty well with only the occasional batch problem so youre pretty safe whatever model you buy

As "mcguire6078" has already mentioned the "Kampa Croyde 6" would be a good alternative if you wanted to go steel poled at a reasonable price. The quality of ours is every bit as good as any of the Outwells we own and their after sales is excellent. We also bought the vestibule to close off the front canopy when needed

Hi Arsenaldes,

I've been looking at the Kampa Croyde now as well. Just to make things more confusing!

I'll keep you posted
