I have another thread going about the Outwell Cleveland 5, but due to it's new-ness, not many people can offer advice about it.
One of my main questions regarding the tent is the use Duratec poles, which I have just realised are used on many of the other Outwell tents. I was wondering if anyone who has an Outwell tent with Duratec poles as the main poles (not just for canopy supports etc) have any comments about their functionality and durability, particularly in poorer weather?
I think the Nevada range has these poles for a start.
Thanks

We have an Outwell Sun Valley with duratec poles - the sun valley seems very similar to the cleveland in structure (except the SV has a horizontal bracing pole on either side just above head height).
After about 6 - 7 years of use, they are holding up well, generally. We have had a total of 4 pole sections split, all of which have been replaced from the same pack of spare sections we bought for about £20.
Duratec poles tend to split down their length, rather than snap, so the tent can still hold its shape quite well after a break. Gaffa tape can be used in a pinch for a running repair.
When fitting a spare (takes 20 mins from start to finish, including taking the pole out and putting it back in), be sure to cut the new section to the right length (measure it against the broken section). I normally use a multi-tool for this.
All in all - the duratec poles will flex in heavy winds, but I've never had any issues with them under normal use.
Thanks Dave. I believe that that Clevelandt has a horizontal pole running from the front door to above the sleeping area at the back. I guess it must add some sort of rigidity across the tent stopping the poles sagging together.
Its probably not a bad idea to have a bit of flex in the system, but just not so much that you face touches to roof whilst sleeping in strong winds (the problem with the current family tent)!
We have the Nevada M , which as you say , has these poles .
A few weeks ago we used it during some very strong winds & driving rain , it dealt with both without any problems at all.
Looked & felt very secure indeed :)
The poles themselves seem to be very strong & heavy duty , when compared to the poles from other brands of tents !

Had a Nevada M since 2009 used lots never had a problem with the poles a lot stronger than others we have come across and Outwell normally use an angled ferrule where the sides meet the roof and this puts less strain on them. I think a lot of problems with any fibre pole comes from the way people try and lift the tent especially if the doors are closed as this put a lot of strain on the

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Duratec poles are great but look after them. If they get dropped and thrown around too much it weakens them and they become more prone to splitting.
Always keep a roll of duct tape in your car as you can do a very convincing repair job with this so if you do break a pole you won't need to replace it until you get home. Replacing broken pole sections is cheap and easy so don't panic if you do break one.

I've just been reading this thread, and am new to duratec poles also!!
Arsenaldes, what did you mean when you stated they can break if people lift the tent up with doors closed? Do you mean when you bent the poles to put up when pitching? If so how can this be avoided????
------------- Enjoy life while you can, none of us know what's round the corner!
had a duratec split whilst away in the strong winds a few weeks ago, think it went whilst pitching and split down its length as stated above, I didn't think to gaffer tape it, just put the tent up and carried on.
its a Nevada m and was really windy and was fine, on my return took it to go outdoors and they repaired it for the grand sum of ......... wait for it......£2.70! dropped off and picked up the next day....top service.
they have a full pole set they take off the shelf and do the repairs using that, saves spending £20 on a whole set of spares, and also saves the frustration of re-stringing it!
really love my Nevada m, have front awning now and coming Friday 2 matching windbreaks from on here!
