Ended up having to replace the connecting wires a couple of times when using brute force in the early days. Best way to part them (as we do now), is to pour contents of a hot kettle over the join (take the usual H+S precautions: I accept no liability for injuries caused from scalding). This will expand the metal enough for them to part.
One tip that we were given (but not used), is to spray some cheap furniture polish IN to the pole. I'm unsure about this as I don't know a) if any of the ingredients of the spray could compromise the integrity of the tent fabric and b) whether too much of this would mean that the poles may slide out too easily when they shouldn't!.

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
Thanks to all who have replied. Brute force was the first thing that came to mind but using hands only, that did not work . Will try the hot water as suggested (being very careful !!) as the expansion does make sense. If this works will try spraying inside poles as presumably this lubricates the springs. With regards to fabsil that is the water proofing spray i presume ? Furniture polish (silicone) also makes sense. The problem occured after a wet stay in Worcester. If the weather has any bearing on my problem, this must be pretty common this year !!! Thanks Keith
Most steel roof poles tend to lock up a bit in any weather as the full weight of the tent is on them

update on outwell "stuck" poles ! Have managed to free stuck poles using the hot water method !(thanks for tip leader64) As poss safeguard against it happening again have also sprayed joints with furniture polish (male and female) thanks for tip (arsenaldes)Camping at chichester camping and caravan site for a week starting 14th july, will let you know if any pole stick when we take tent down in weeks time !!! thanks
Had the same problem with glendale 5, after a lot of bad language found that just tapping them on the floor would separate them! Before I found this trick would nearly do myself an injury trying to get them apart
Glad that the hot water worked. The problem isn't just for this years weather. We suffered from this a couple of years ago.
OH has informed me that she sprayed inside the joins in March in anticipation that we would get out plenty this year (Ha ha ha ha ha. Maniacal laughter subsides). On our one trip so far, we had no problems.
Enjoy your week.

Silicon spray should be fine as it wont damage the fabric, Fabsil spray is fine and for the past 5 years weve just used silicon furniture polish on our Vermont poles

I have a outwell monterey 5 the poles do stick outwell are aware of this they recomend tapping them with tent peg and by jingo it works a treat i personaly would not spray or use grease untill the tapping method fails to work give it a go you can always go back to spray/grease idea,
Update on last trip. All poles came apart, none stuck !!
So spraying joints etc., worked ! With regards to tapping poles to seperate them (have two people who have suggested this method, and will try if it happens again, thank you)
In conclusion,Outwell would be better off putting a magic wand in with their package so we could "tap" our poles (perhaps substitute it for their tent pegs)!!!
Thanks for all your replies
