Take a tin of Fabsil type water proofing (always good to spray zips with) and spray the pole joint when you pitch the tent. If they are still stuck when you come to take them down a quick squirt in the joint and a tap with a rubber mallet will get them apart. This is a common thing with steel poled tents, not a lot you can do.

Ps, never use an oil based or soap type solution to do this.

Thank you all for you very helpful suggestions, we followed your advice and tent poles are now unstuck *phew* and back in their storage bag!
