Hallo,

We are family of three (one child 2 year) and perhaps in near future of four. I am looking for family weekend (mostly 3 or 4 nights) tent. I have thought about Outwell Oakland XL but on campingworld site I found Outwell Ontario LP pack (with carpet and footprint) at almost same price like Oakland XL pack.

I thing Ontario is better than Oakland but there is no review about Ontario tent on this site. Why, is there some problem with this tent?

Which tent of these (or some other) do you suggest for my usage (longer weekends)? What about pitching these tents, is it same or one of these is easier?

Thank you very much for your help.

Peter

We have the Oakland XL. There are 3 of us and it works really well with plenty of space.

The Ontario is bigger than the Oakland (which is good) and it looks like the front slopes less too.

The Ontario is a new tent for 2012 whilst the Oakland has been around for a few years now, hence the lack of reviews on it.

If this tent had been around when we got the Oakland I would have bought it.

Thank you very much for your answer.

Many peole complain in reviews of Oakland about no zips in bottoms of doors (there is velcro instead of zip) and about necessity use two zips for open / close doors?

Is it same in Ontario? Not many people has Ontario, so is it same in Montana 6P? (Montana 6P is also from Premium line and I thing it has same features like Ontario)

Thanks in advance for your help.

No zips on the bottom of doors is something a lot of manufacturers are doing now. You are supposed to use the flyscreen as well to 'sort' this issue. We don't find it a problem in the Oakland to be honest. Even when we leave the fly screen rolled up. Not having seen an Ontario in the flesh I can't say for certain if it zips across the bottom but looking at a picture of it I would say it doesn't.

The Montana's are highly thought of so if the Ontario is from the same range it is going to be a good tent.

Thank you very much.

OK, it seems that Ontario LP and Montana 6P has same features (no zip in bottom of door and two zip for close / open doors).

And what about tinted windows on Ontario LP, is it worth it?

On most of there tents Outwell use 2 zips and bottom velcro and the front door and some of the side doors you can prop up with king poles and use as a canopy. The inner flymesh is one continuous zip going down one side across the bottom and up the other side which seals out the bugs and stops little ones escaping.

Also when does a weekend tent stop being a weekend tent????
Really its a smallish tent that you can throw in the back of the car and go off for the weekend. We use an Outwell Nevada M for weekends plenty big enough for the 4 of us quick to pitch

Any opinions or personal experiencies with tinted windows? Is it good or standard windows are better?

Bargain here, would fit your needs perfectly if you don't mind it being pre-loved...We've got the same and it's fabulous for 2 of us so would be great for 3 (or 4)

We have an Outwell norfolk lake as our main tent and a Nevada S as weekender for the 2 of us. we are considering a Nevada M or Oakland XL as a "long weekender with grandkids" (any excuse :-)) as Outwell now do a proper front awning so you can have a "modular" type system to add or leave at home as required. Our local dealer has an ONTY on display and it seems to have a unique lay-out which may suit never lived in one with tinted windows though.

Outwell Virginia 5 which is available from Yeomans.

We have had this tent for two years and can highly recommend it. Very easy to pitch    Have a read of the great reviews it gets.

We have a Montana 6P and the bottom of the doors are only Velcro, which gave us a scare when our 18 month old did his great escape. If it was not for this is would not be such an issue, plus I guess it helps with keeping condensation away. Our Colman Cedar Creek was also like this.

I like the tinted windows. When your outside the tent at 10feet you can see in but not too clearly, when you 15 or more feet away you have a job seeing anything in the tent.

I’m guessing this is why none of the Outwell Premium Collection awnings have zipped up curtains this year, as Outwell are relying on their tinted windows will be enough. They work well but I’d still have liked to have the option for zipped up curtains on the awning for more privacy.

Thanks all for your help and info.

I like Ontario but, it seems, it has too wide side door plus rounded front with slope and there is not too much place in living room for table, chairs, kitchen, cool box, bags and so on.

Montana 6P is definitely great tent and I like it, but I think that it is too big and hard pitching for our purpose - longer weekends (mostly 3 or 4 nights).

Now, I'm thinking also about Outwell Monterey 5, there isn't slope in the front and living room seems more usable. In additional there is front canopy, but I'm little afraid about front of tent with canopy and strong wind...

What do you think and what tent do you suggest for me?

Thank you very much.
