Hi.

I am looking for some advice on which tent I should buy.

I'm not a hardcore camper, I am just looking for a simple tent to use with my 2 Nephews.

They are only 5, so I was planning to set it out on the decking and use it there until they are more comfortable to go elsewhere.

I bought a Cheap pop up tent from Argos, but after 1 night out it had water on the ground sheet. It was raining, but it didn't seem to be leaking it was just damp when you felt the inside.

I took it back and bought a slightly more expensive one from Halfords, but the same thing has happened.

It stated something about single layer tents needed to be vented to stop condensation, but it seemed to be water seeping through the material.

Are there any tents where this doesn't happen or will they all let water through at some point.

Buy a tent from a reputable manufacturer and you'll be fine. I'd steer clear of anything ridiculously cheap.

Have a look in the tent review section on here. You will find something suitable.

I agree with reggiewac, you get what you pay for generally. Get something that you can stand up in with a decent amount of room. What about a teepee type tent? They'd love it!

I would recommend a pop up from Decathlon from their Quechua range. If you don't need something to stand up in then go for one of these (I'd recommend the four man for three of you)

Thanks guy's for the replies.

I agree that you get what you pay for, but I don't want to be spending to much at the moment until I know that they enjoy it.

The 4 man tent that victoria1 suggested is not much more than what I paid and that lets water in.

I don't think it was damaged in any way, I just think they have used poor materials.

Is the water on the ground sheet from condensation or water seeping through the material?

I've just had a look on the Quechua tent site and was looking at this model.

I've never heard of this brand before. Is it any good?

I like the ease of the pop up tents and because they are free standing it's a lot easier having it on the decking.

The quechua 4.1 4 man with living area was still on offer recently for £99 I think it was, deffo worth it.

Your argos tent if it was a cheap single skin with no 2nf skin/pod type material will get condensation and get you wet, never had that problem with a Quechua and ive had everything from the 3man 2 seconds, base full, old 4.2, new family 4.2xl etc.

Although I would recommend securing some guys somewhere, freak gust and you could really get hurt, look up flying tents on youtube.

I think I'll put a couple of ties onto the deck rail just in case. There's not much wind out my garden as it is pretty covered from the elements.

I think I'll go ahead and buy that tent. The other good thing is that I could have the tent door open slightly for extra air circulation as there's a front part that will stop rain coming in.
