Hi guys.

I'm going to Glastonbury next year for my friends stag weekend. I've already got a large decent tent but I don't want to take it in case it gets ruined. There will (hopefully) be only me sleeping in it, but I would like something big enough so that I have plenty of space.

This will be my first festival and wondered if you guys had any suggestions or tips.

What would be a good tent to take?

What would be a good sleeping bag?

Should I take a roll mat or inflatable mattress?

Any tips or advice appreciated.

ALSO...and you guys may think i'm mad, but i've just bought a tent from Tesco, reduced from £10 to a fiver. Its a very basic small single skin 2 man dome tent. Would it be ridiculous to take this aswell and pitch it INSIDE a bigger tent, giving me an extra layer of protection? Just an idea that sprung to mind.

As you've plenty of time you could keep an eye out for something from ebay or Gumtree, or indeed your local paper for an old tent. I don't really see the point in pitching one tent inside the other.

I would go for roll mat, much easier to carry and you won't need a pump or need any insulation under the airbed, which you would normally need.

You could get a Self Inflating mat instead for a bit of extra comfort. Sleeping bag...you pays your money....

Have to agree that it has to be light enough to carry. Also you may find it difficult to find a reasonable size pitch.

From all that I have heard before you are going to find it hard to pitch a big tent but I have seen them at festivals so it is not impossible.

I strongly advise you do a search on this site for festival camping as the topic has been discussed many times before and some great advice has been offered both before and after the event.

I live local to the Festival and have worked there off and on.

If you want to pitch a biggish tent you ideally need to be on site as early as you can be on the Wednesday.

Depending on where you want to camp (if you have preferences about which stage you want to camp near) you may have to lug your gear a considerable way. The best mode of transport I have seen are the domestic bins on wheels.

If you get bad weather your tent stands a good chance of being obliterated so nothing too fancy that you might be willing to bin afterwards would be my suggestion.

Good advice - use the 'Search' button at the top of the page. Or click this festival search

A basic rule of camping at festivals is don't take anything you are not prepared to lose or have damaged. So take a smallish cheap tent. And, as others have said, take lightweight gear because at Glastonbury it can be a long walk from your car to the campsite.

Take earplugs too (the cheap foam plug type) because there is a lot of noise on the campsites late into the night.

Don't under-estimate bargain tents from supermarkets. I've owned several and had very good service from them.

Good luck getting your ticket! And if you do get one, enjoy Glasto.

Can anyone recommend a good sleeping bag? That's not very expensive. As I'm expecting most of my stuff to get ruined.
