Hi

Just hoping to get some thoughts on which tent to buy. Looking for a comfortable but sturdy tent for 2 people with ample room (I have a Terra Nova Voyager for 2 person backpacking). I'm likely to use it in Scottish conditions but nothing harsher.

I've looked into the Coleman Coastline Plus and the Vango Omega 350. The 350 is likely to be second hand (2008 model) whereas the Coleman would probably be new. I'm happy to look into anything else!

Thanks for your help.

Chris

I started out using a Coleman Cobra 3 tent, a great, lightweight tent for solo campers or maybe for a cosy couple, ideal for cyclists or backpackers. If, however, you want something a bit bigger with stand-up height, take a look at my review of the Vaude Campo Family. Ostensibly a 5-berth tent, it's still fairly light but strong enough to stand up to pretty strong, gusty conditions - I speak from experience!

Your post suggests you are looking more for a base camp type set up? If thats the case and you are using it mainly for the conditions we have up here (year round?) I would be tempted to look at something with a steel pole frame. I have used my wee Outwell Oakland M in the winter in Glencoe and it stood up to some horrendous weather with valor! I have also used my bigger Outwell Carolina M in winter, the benefit being it has space to live and cook in. It depends really on what sort of conditions you expect to use it in.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I think I might try popping down to a few Outdoor stores and see if I can have a look at the ones you've recommended.

The Sherpa 3 seems to be what I'm looking for although a tent I could stand up in (like the Vaude) is definitely worth looking into.

Cheers!
