We  have almost decided to buy an Outwell Montana 6 but are a little worried that the dogs claws might damage it. (We have 3 Labs!)  We are considering buying the carpet but would that be washable?

Not washable as in put in the washing machine but with a carpet cleaner or I think someone on here uses a pressure washer. With dogs, I wonder whether you'd be better with a patchwork of picnic rugs which would be washable. Have a read of the thread about the quality of Outwell carpets before you finally decide. We love our Monty BTW.

We did wonder about putting some eco ground sheet on top of the groundsheet - the young pup is the one to worry about though as he goes crazy from time to time!!

Why would you want your dogs in the tent? They are bred as outdoors animals. Can you not keep them outside?

The Outwell carpets are rubber backed and don't move around too much, I'd imagine rugs etc. would slip all over the place. They are too big for a domestic washing machine so we wash ours at the launderette once or twice per year.

We have a large dog and the carpet does a great job of protecting the SIG.

You should try telling our dog that! He wants to be wherever we are, if we shut the tent with us inside and him on the outside I guarantee you he'd be in within a few minutes.

I would never shut the tent with the dog inside that's just asking for it!
Why would you want to do that?
Only way I would do that would be if the dog was in a cage
Get the Montana carpet and lay picnic rugs over if you are so concerned

We have our dog in the tent with us and always have. We have had an outwell montana 12, outwell oakland and now a vango maritsa. All with carpets and have never had an issue! Dogs are only used to being kept outside if they always live that way. You wouldn't have them in the house at home and then shove them outside when you're camping!!! I wouldn't anyway thats just cruel! We have a boxer and he curls up quite happily inside. He has his bed next to ours in the pod and is no bother...he loves it. Even when we have my sister in laws dog and ours together we have had no issues. I would always have the carpet ideally. We used picnic rugs in the monty and they were just a major pain as I kept tripping over the edges...it took four to cover the living area!! A carpet is just nicer to stand and sit on and yes it does give peace of mind on the claw issue. Whether you go for the carpet or another covering I would definately say get something.

I had two dogs in mine the other week, no carpet, groundsheet was fine. Both sizable collies and active. My tent is older than dirt and stood up fine.

My friends have three beagles (and a Monty), two of which never stop messing with each other. They've never said anything about the groundsheet being damaged, and they don't use a carpet.

Not that I'm saying don't buy a carpet, just demonstrating that the groundsheet is pretty tough.

With the Poppy Dog we have a carpet in living area and breathable groundsheet in the porch.

She has never damaged the groundsheet.
We have a picnic blanket that we put down wherever we are, to minimise hair everywhere! She has ripped this a couple of times but it is easily repaired with gaffer tape.

Yes, the car is bigger than the 'van.
