Hello all,

Bit of a problem, packing up this weekend noticed that the groundsheet seam inside the tent had come away and grass is showing through.

Were going away in 10 days to 3 weeks abroad. What do we do?

Options so far
Thinking new tent under guarantee (if its still within)
Repairing it with duct tape?
Repairing it with some sorta glue?

Have tried local repairers, who cant do it in the timeframe.

and final option buying a new tent and sorting this one later.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Any help is much appreciated as its quite time sensitive.

Thanks

We repaired a hole in our footprint with gorilla tape both sides and nothing has come through. Much stronger than duct tape. It was a fairly large hole, about 2" round having been eaten by mice in the next field (we seem to have camped over their 'run')

Tenacious tape is good but there's a new kid on the block....Tear-Aid, its just like Tenacious tape but is super stretchy as well, look it up on youtube. You can buy it off the roll and it costs more but is so good.

Cool appears my local snow and rock has them both Silnet and Tenacious tape in stock. Thanks for the help guys was beginning to panic a little.

But if anyone has any more suggestions keep posting them. As everyone can appreciate this problem isnt something you want away from home with nasty insects about.

Thanks

We had the same problem a couple of years ago found a 30cm split on the groundsheet seam while away. Did an on site repair with seam sealer and that just peeled off as soon as it dried. Tenacious tape did stick it but we found it a bit "stretchy" as the seam opened up when the groundsheet was pulled taught. We then tried a genuine "Duck" tape that didnt want to stick at all. Finally used Gorilla tape on both sides of the split 2 years later its still stuck and hasnt leaked

The problem is that most groundsheets are made from polyethylene and very little will stick to polyethylene, that is why the seam sealer peeled off as soon as it dried. Most liquid glue bottles are made from polyethylene, so that should tell us something. This "Gorilla Tape sounds interesting - I'm going to look it up.

Ground sheet material cannot be glued, it is actually heated together, providing a weld! I would suggest you do your temp repair for your trip, get in touch with the supplier  then try and get a new tent or repaired under guarentee, when you come back?

Probably worth sending off an email to the manufacturer explaining the situation and what you're planning to do so that it's in writing and they can't try and claim that you broke it with the tape or something, when you go back later and try to claim on the guarantee.
