So we have a cabanon guadelupe with a side panel, and love the whole thing...
except for the side panel in a wind.
The one inch bit of velcro doesn't quite match up with the main tent, and comes open and then the whole thing flaps too much for comfort. Even if it did match I think it would come apart. I've done endless readjustments of guying to try and solve it, to no avail.

So I figure we need longer velcro strips (or something else). Ideally the whole thing would be zipped, but that I'm sure exceeds my sewing skills (which are extremely limited!).
Another option is a dozen eyelets down the side which could then be used to lace together the panel and man tent. But that mean precise alignment and good reinforcing.

Overall I feel velcro is the easiest and should work if there's a longer length of it.

Does anyone have any experience modifying the tent to try and make the side panel fit in a more wind proof manner?

Hi, We also have the Guad plus 2 side panels and totally love the whole set up.

Have found that they match up fine if on fairly level ground and you don't over tighten the guys. They are a bit of a fiddle to get right (its taken us a lot of practice) but they do stay put and don't flap at all, even in very strong wind.

Last week in Cornwall we were pitched 'bum to the wind' and DH went round checking the guys when the wind got up strong, as you do, then had to slacken off the guy on the corner of the side panel and tighten the one that runs alongside the tent to get the best fit.
I think its a matter of adjustment and practice but good luck with it.

Don't bother trying. I've fitted my side panels several times and they never seem to go on exactly the same each time. The Velcro is a complete waste of material. If you practice a bit and fit the panels so the back part has a good overlap then the Velcro isn't needed. As campfairy says, it really is a matter of adjustments and practice. Once you've done it a few times you'll get a feel for how it should be. I've had the panels up in very strong winds several times and there is virtually no gap between the tent and the panel.

We have sewn 2" velcro to the full length of the porch of the tent and to the side panels. Hang the panel over the king pole and attach tent and side panel together starting from the top prior to pegging out the porch of the tent. Then peg out the side panel putting tension on the tent porch, peg out the tent porch bottom allowing for ground undulation, continue to peg out the leading edge of the side panel. Works every time and the velcro does the job and has never come undone. We have made a front panel with zipped entrance flap. This is also attached with 2" velcro and is excellant as it allows the now enclosed front porch to be used for storage and cooking in when the weather is wet and windy.[See pictures posted by Jill Claye]

OK, so pitching with more overlap seems to work, though we haven't yet experienced the windy conditions again that caused the existing tiny velcro to fail and irritate me so much.
I'm glad someone else has had success with the velcro idea (brigadear - thanks for the reply!) and am very impressed with the Jill Claye modifications!
Perhaps we have a project this winter!
